Hi, are the holes in membrane made by the staples holding it to the studwork not a source of air leakage?

This requirement has gotten so out of control that it is now bizarre. Yes, it is great to save energy by sealing every little hole and crack. However, how much energy is consumed in making all those membranes, patches, and tapes?

I happen to live in a passive house since 21 years now, pay 124 EUR per YEAR for the heating of 90 sq.m. and am happy to FINALLY see that the topic gets attention. Very good presentation!

Just started watching, but he's a great instructor. Even I understood. (Plus: I'll be more careful of balloons I buy for kids. Too old to keep blowing up same balloons ;~)

Great video. I suggest when feeling for leaks, dampen your hands with water. Makes them more sensitive to temperature change

I am in the process of tracing these sorts of leaks in my 3 bedroom terraced house, and it is amazing how much difference it has made, just sealing some very tiny leaks. Many thanks for this clip, which I really enjoyed watching. Certainly given me one or two ideas to play around with.

I'm in the same boat, just found that 2 windows are fitted so "great"(FENSA certified) that I can poke 8mm stick trough!!! and my main doors(£3000) will never seal properly. Again British Satandard compliant. Or as I call them BullShit standard.... Sorry had to vent somewhere.

Every builder, architect and person building new home needs to attend classes like this. They would better appreciate the need to air sealing and blower door testing.

A more comfortable home. A more energy efficient home. Saving energy saves money on utilities.

I find scissors quickly gum up with Tesco (Pro-clima) tapes (because it's very sticky stuff), so have to use a knife. I guess it works OK with these isover tapes. Rather an making your own collars or depending on that dodgy bit of goop in the corners for the joist, just use pro-clima grommets: (roflex or kaflex). Available from green building store and ecomerchant in the UK. www.greenbuildingstore.co.uk/product-category/airtightness-products/grommets/ Seems to me he's making the backing piece excessively large, which just uses a lot of tape. Especially with multiple cables a proper kaflex multi-cable grommet is more reliable than trying to squirt goop into the bundle. It's useful to know what to do when you've not got the right grommet to hand (especially whilst builders merchants don't stock this really basic stuff) but using the right thing is quicker and easier.

Excellent demo with the balloons. It should be used to promote Passive Haus.

Still VERY relevant! A lot of upskilling needed throughout the construction industry.

Everyone should get this done at home

Yes def for energy savings...but if you don't make sure your house also has proper ventilation (fresh air) you are sealing all the VOC's (volatile organic compounds) up inside. Also for fresh oxygen if you have appliances that burn gas.

Not everyone, every house needs enough air changes per hour to keep moisture and CO2 levels down. Every house with MVHR system installed needs to be as airtight as possible.

You could also show how to seal around downlighters.
