This lineup was the best he ever had. I saw it and recorded them. Kirk McKim was easily covering Pat Thralls parts and then some and Sean The Cannon Shannon and Rodney O'Quinn are exceptional musicians better than the original musicians. Pat should feel thankful he had these guys in his corner at one time.

Sean Shannon is one of the best drummers alongside of Tommy Aldridge. Pat has been an influence to so many musicians! Kirk McKim is a serious professional guitarist and Pat sounded great with him. I believe Rodney was playing Bass and lets not forget Pat Thrall. He was the original back in the days when Pat was doing most of his great writing.

My band The NYC Blues Devils opened for 4 gigs with these guys, leading up to a 6 week European tour with my OTHER band, The Lizards opening kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaTNdmhsp9BgatEsi=bC1rJZY_X02M3aoN

That guitar solo at the beginning is actually a classical tune, I think from Rachmaninov. I was listening to WQXR NY one lunch hour and this exact tune came up, and was done by the orchestra with violins. That tune does not get much airplay, though.

The verse and chorus of this song are in 13/8 - albeit with different subdivisions - but still swing. Kudos to Pat for playing and singing effortlessly over these complex meters!

Seen him twice in the 70's, once later with Dave LaRue on bass. Would have to channel Tommy on drums or not playing it.
Takes me back to summer '79. Was 16. 45 years, WOW.

Great song from a great album. Such a raw sound. It really conveys the message of the outlaw avoiding the heat in the street.

Used to play this song and several other PT songs in my high school rock band. Putting it Straight was a monster album. Nicko McBrain and Mars Cowling made Pats tunes scream. One of the best rock power trio's ever!

His songs have more than just two or three catchy sections. There's usually a fourth or fifth little section scattered in there to keep it extra interesting. A band member would need to rehearse that stuff and keep a pretty extensive memory bank of all those little detours in the songs. Love the "Go for What you Know" album.
