Hearing Bowie's voice echoing through my earbuds brings back sooooo much to me. But as they often say: He didn't die, he just went back to his home planet because they needed him to be Ziggy Stardust again...hehehe. A mean, the man was something else.

I think this song is trying to describe love but because love is a power no longer on earth no one put it into words.

Anyone criticising this is obviously missing the film language they were using. She's completely disoriented and equally mesmerised by the goblin king because she's under some kind of fae spell... the nice dance only lasts for a few seconds and then suddenly there's this overwhelming sense of unease and noise. She escapes because she knows something is wrong. So...not condoning anything.

I was maybe 5 when i saw this movie a year or two after it was released. I was IN LOVE with Davide Bowie in this movie. Everything about his character is alluring. Layer on in life, i met friends who felt the same way.

This scene is the music box that Sarah was gifted from her mother……which hints that her mother met Jareth, hence why he is bittersweet in his love for her, because she reminds him of everything he lost the first time……as if he sings the song to her saying I miss her, you lost her too, but together in our pain we can be together…. as the pain sweeps through it makes no sense (for you) every thrill has gone. Wasn’t too much fun at all (your mother dying) BUT I’ll be there for you as the world falls down.

After all, in the novel/comics, Linda (Sarah’s mother) left her husband to be with Jeremy who is also Jareth in the goblin realm.

I love how Sarah did everything to get her brother back. She was determined she never gave up. And Jareth couldn't stand that. Because he wanted Sarah to love him to choose him instead of Toby. But she never did.

The juxtaposition of the romantic setting against Jareth's effed up desires is so fantastic. It's equally alluring and unsettling.

The film's director Jim Henson viewed the entire film as a representation of Sarah's inner journey that culminates in her taking responsibility for her own life. Henson viewed the main events of the film as a dream of Sarah's, a view that is supported by the fact toys and figures resembling the creatures Sarah encounters in the Labyrinth are seen in her room at the start of the film. Henson told Ecran Fantastique in a 1987 interview that Sarah "lives in her own little imaginary and fantasy-laden world. Dreams are very important to her. The Wizard of Oz means a lot to her. When she goes into the dream world, which makes up the whole film, she plays a role that recalls the way she feels about the real world. At the end, when she emerges from the dream, from the fantasy, she starts to renounce the foolishness of her childhood, and what the characters say is simply we’re here; we’re part of you, all of us as we are. You don’t have to give up your fantasies because you grow up; they’re part of you all your life."
