Every time I see this drawing this scene and song pops into my head. Because this scene is so iconic. Besides the Labyrinth was the first movie that I actually saw David Bowie act and sing in, and besides I kinda still have a crush on Jareth the Goblin King/David Bowie. R.I.P. David Bowie.

Hearing Bowie's voice echoing through my earbuds brings back sooooo much to me. But as they often say: He didn't die, he just went back to his home planet because they needed him to be Ziggy Stardust again...hehehe. A mean, the man was something else.

No, he doesn't. What is wrong with you. That's part of his manipulation. He is a textbook example of a narcissist, he would say anything to get what he wants, Sarah is a typical teenager, she wants to feel seen and desired ... don't get me wrong, this movie is a masterpiece and I'm still obsessed with it, but if a grown a ss man would even look at my 14 year old daughter, I would skin that piece of sh it alive.
@kaylovesdisney458210 ай бұрын
We all know that this film only works mostly due to David Bowie's performance and songs...and that's why there should never be a remake....at least not on film. Bowie is perfect in this! 💜✨️ I would not say no to a stage adaptation but the actors for Jareth and Sarah would have to be exceptionally good and the staircase scene would have to remain.
@AlephNeil2 ай бұрын
Sure. But whether to remake isn't about whether it *works*.

I love how Sarah did everything to get her brother back. She was determined she never gave up. And Jareth couldn't stand that. Because he wanted Sarah to love him to choose him instead of Toby. But she never did.

From a purely practical and technical effects standpoint this was, and is, still, an amazing scene. My question is what exactly was jareth actually trying to do? Teach a moral lesson? Somehow win the girl? Torment someone for his amusement?
@FortisConscius23 күн бұрын
Following the Ballroom scene he's frustrated. He thought he was wooing her, winning her over. No, it's clear now that all she cares about really is getting her baby brother back. He's venting. He's done *everything* for her. Met her every expectation. She doesn't understand this (nor care) and he's trying to make her see how hard he's worked to fulfil her dreams. Next scene he spells it out explicitly, and tries one last time to show her what she can have. Her dreams, his dreamworld, everything. He's intimidating, he's desperate, he's broken by her rejections and the fact she hasn't loved him back.

The song text is a perfect example for a narcissist. It's not 'romantic', it's downright psyc hotic. The movie is just perfection, I love everything about it, but so many comments on the internet are so messed up. Imagine a grown man acting like this around your 14 year old daughter, I don't even have children but I'm extremely protective of younger individuals ... it's not their job to know it better, most parents need to work to put food on the table, they can't be around 24/7 and that's why we as members of society need to help out.
