I disagree about 3rd shot being either a drop or drive. If I drive the 3rd when I'm standing behind the base-line the ball speed will not super fast/hard and my opponent can simply drop the ball over the net, then I'm racing to the net to get the ball--bad situation. Also, if a return is short I will more like drive the ball as im closer to opponent and the ball will be traveling much faster amd I'll be driving to the player that just returned the serve as is most likely still moving up or not stable.

I am convinced that the deep lob serve is much more difficult for the average player to judge than a hard low fast serve. I use that top spin on that serve and I am still trying to perfect my consistency. Deep in the court is great, making it harder to judge. Thank you for the video.

Tip #2 I was taught that the “See saw” meant that as the ball goes up your paddle goes down regardless of where you are on the court. On a too short lob to your opponent drop your paddle as you backup. In the transition zone if the ball is returned high then drop your paddle.

I really appreciate that you used a true beginner in your teaching video-I can easily see myself in her shoes. I have watched many pickleball tutorials for beginners, but most of them demonstrate with their pro-partners, who naturally pick things up effortlessly. Your video, featuring real beginners, are so much more relatable and helpful. I have learnred more this approach and just subscribed after watching this first video. Thank you so much for the awesome tutorial!

I love that you have a 'regular' pickleball player in your video. Normally, it is just one or two pro's. It resonates more when you add a non-pro in the lesson.

Tip #7 for Gabby: stop randomly spinning your paddle. Most paddles have a specific grip one side versus the other due to the way taping overlaps. Know the feel of each side and get into that zone specifically. Spinning makes it random.

I don't know if this has already been addressed but there is one correction to the issue with touching the no volley zone before a volley. As of 2025 your paddle can touch the Non-Volley zone prior to contact in your volley. As of 2025 they changed to rule that a volley does not start until contact with the ball now. So touching the NVZ with your paddle before is legal...Great videos keep it up Cheers

A lot of these comments are interesting. I think your drive vs.drop advice is solid, and I know it works because that’s how I play. I guess for the nitpickers, you could add the qualifier….”if you can aim your drive to a weak point in your opponent’s defenses…” which SHOULD go without saying, but apparently not. For instruction at 4.0 level I’m comfortable ASSUMING the player can aim their drive, and knows their opponents weak spots. But even if the drive isn’t perfect, odds are that a drop from behind the baseline won’t be perfect as often as a drive would be. Keep up the good work!

I love your tutorials guys and I would like to point something out with driving from behind the baseline. When you drive from so far away, if you’re playing against an opponent who has a really good volley block on your drive then you’re not getting to that ball. Dropping instead of driving from behind the baseline gives you more time to set back up. I do agree driving behind the baseline is more productive, but you have to be athletic enough to follow your drives so you don’t get caught too far away from a really good block.

The short corner serve is so much more effective with power and spin. You hit it easy and a quick opponent can get to it. I’ve played that serve for years as well as the slice backhand. Getting too fancy to ace people with serves you cannot make every single time is going to cost you points. Get a solid serve in with good spin, power and placement and play the point.

On flat power serve (11:41 section) it looks like the tip of your paddle is above your wrist which would make the serve illegsl.

That side spin could be deceiving. You can apply variations in it. It can produce a pure side spin or a side spin with a chop. The effect will be different.

This is nothing new and if you don't do it backhand your not so obvious but the rule on serving, keeping the paddle top down is broken all the time. Who calls the serves illegal on your neighborhood courts? Watch, some of these people serve like they're using a baseball bat.
@charlieytpwАй бұрын
Power serves don’t have tip of paddle beneath wrist at contact. Also role spun servers, is paddle tip location at start of the ball rolling across the paddle strike or at the release from paddle surface? Think about that.
@kerrysiler6800Ай бұрын
Your right charlie!! I can smack the heck out of that ball if I hit it like a baseball lol , but what do they say to you when you call them on it, I know it's not pretty!
@kerrysiler6800Ай бұрын
Your right Charlie. It doesn't go well when you call someone on that type of serve.
@robinrobine8100Ай бұрын
You still have to hit up on the ball for the traditional serve. Many of the serves show the paddle going over the top of the ball at contact. Regardless of the type serve, the same rules should apply to all. I do not know why they would allow us to hit down on drop serves.

I am confused about the power serve explanation. For my power serve, I use a semi-western grip, hit it at 90% power and try to put as much topspin on it as I can. I don't put topspin on it for the kick, I rely on it to keep the ball in. I've actually never tried it, but I assume most of my serves would go long without topspin. Are there any pros that employ a flat power serve? Thanks.
@CrackedPickleball26 күн бұрын
Ultimately you need topspin to keep the ball in. The point we trying to make is that if you can use less topspin, you’ll get a bit more speed. But yes, it’s a balance and too little will make it go out
