I know the feeling. I was jigging fluke just off Great Bay recently and I mistook cow nosed rays on the surface for a school of bluefish. I threw a popper and immediately foul hooked one of those beasts. It took a while to land and I got soaked from it flapping next to my kayak. I also got my lure back. 😊

Hey do you ever go bridge fishing and get no bites at all? And if you are fishing a bridge and nothings biting in one spot do you work your way around and fish all the pillings?

@@609Fishing my personal best black drum was a 63 lb. caught with my grouper pole on a big, live blue claw crab underneath the Pinedia csw, Indian river lagoon... released him. Caught a 23" sheep head on a barnacle cluster. He was missing an eye and I released him too.

Can you do a video some time about the trial and errors of your setup? Specifically how long is your leader? What pound test your main line is? Why not just use 30lb mono instead of braid for abrasion resistance?
@609Fishing
@609Fishing 8 күн бұрын
So my leader is typically 12-18” of 20lb mono. 15 lb braid main line. I like fishing the lightest possible setup, you can fish heavier but the heavier you go the less sensitivity you have. (Which isn’t necessarily important for Stripers since they usually aren’t hard to detect when they strike)

Nice catch! That's what I love about the big ones, they fight just like a drum! Good job man! And I'm glad I'm not the only one dealing with the cownose stingray rays, sorry misery loves company. Had one last sunday on my flounder jig, wish I had my pliers cause the hook out wasn't workin. He swam off with the teaser stuck to his wing, and the bucktail dangling beneath him. My buddy was bustin my chops and said maybe the ray will catch something good with my rig since I couldn't, LOL! 😂
