Soft shell green crabs are great either panfried or I actually like them in a porkless carbonara, from an Italian recipe I picked up. Though the bulls (3.5 to4” carapace) can be picked for meat, average size hard shell crabs make excellent stock, garum and can be partially processed and deep fried - center mass is what you eat not legs or claws they’re just for show and holding.

👏👏👏 QUALITY sheeps right there! Great job. I really ought to use sand fleas more often. I’m such a creature of habit and usually go for the fiddler crabs as the bait of choice. Or maybe I’m just lazy 😂
@609Fishing2 күн бұрын
I’d argue quite the contrary - sand fleas are the lazy man bait 🤣 I love using fiddlers, just hate catching them 🤣

Wow! You landed a full herd of sheep that day. I was going to say you were like their wolf. But you released them so I guess that’s more shepherd than wolf. What a trip!
@609Fishing2 күн бұрын
@@tommcmahon9383 I actually didn’t even use all the footage from that day lol One of the better days fishing for them. They’re good to eat, but those sized I typically let go because they’re the breeders.

Sheepshead is on my bucket list. What time of year can u catch them in jersey? Do they stay towards the ocean or travel back into bays?
@609Fishing2 күн бұрын
@@mattmaines64 so from my experience, I have caught them in New Jersey from May until November. It varies though, from where you are fishing and water temps. They do a little bit of traveling. I’ve heard guys who have caught them out in the ocean, but I do most of my fishing for them in the bays

I’ve been struggling with the split clear tubing to protect the net hoop. It kinks and the zip ties cause the net to hang up. I’M WONDERING… Is the tubing necessary with a mono rail (net goes inside the hoop) net hoop? It seems the hoop itself will protect the net. What say you? I don’t like the deep pocket in the net bag. May try to sew it in order the reduce the depth. By-the-way - The ShurHold shrimp and minnow net is great!
@609Fishing8 күн бұрын
I only use the tubing to protect the exposed net, if the net is inside the hoop - then there shouldn’t be an issue
