I can sew up a hole or put on a button. TJMax/Marshall's/Nordstom"s Rack is definitely needed in my book. Also what may look good on a pattern model may not look good on me. I need to try on so many clothes to find one thing that may look good. Right now, I'm just starting to look for a Mother-of-the-bride dress, and what looks so good on the hanger doesn't really look good on this size 16. Waaaahhhh!😓😭😖

You are right, it is not a one size fits all and what looks good on a model may not look as good on us because we are so uniquely built . It's all about finding what we feel comfortable in and makes us feel beautiful and confident! I alter dresses produced in different countries and I can see how poorly some of these dresses fit with very little consistency from one designer to another. Good luck with finding the best mother of the bride dress. Chat with the bride first and see how much freedom she will give you in choosing what you like to wear. Some brides could be very specific on style and color. Then visit store to understand proportions and what different styles, neck lines, silhouettes would work best for your body type, hight, for the season.... you know: you run hot, cold .... Find a stylist that doesn't work on commission and understand best style and proportions and is not motivated by the amount of your purchase to assist you best. Other then that, don't get too focused what you see on line because the models are always 5'10" and not a day over 30. Good designer brands are MGNY, Jovani, Terani Couture just few examples! Good luck and let me know if you have any questions!! Happy to help

I would always encourage you to consider Brother mid range. SE725 is a good option. Also XR9550 if you are into quilting as well. has a wide extension table and over 150 stitches to choose from with a solid motor. if you have a fabric store near by your house or a sewing machine repair, i would step in and get their opinion as well. What is the most return machine and why, also what is the machine with the most troubles so you know you stir away from those and aim for a good solid lasting one. I was very lucky with my SE400 which i use a lot and i prefer that to my industrial Janome 8500 straight stitch and with a solid motor. in the end of the day, you just have to choose one based on your needs and hope for the best. Even a reputable brand can some time have major faults from the factory, If you can , stay away from cheap knockoffs from Chinese manufactures. not only they don't last but also there is no much of support if something goes wrong.

Are highlead gc0618 are they any good???
@silviasvault
@silviasvault Ай бұрын
The Highlead GC0618-1SC is an industrial-grade sewing machine designed for medium to heavy-duty applications, such as upholstery, leatherwork, and canvas projects. None of the people I work with or know in the industry have one. The only industrial sewing machine I have is JUKI 8500, a well know brand with a lot of known great performance. Generally, if you are a beginner, it's important to consider whether an industrial machine like the Highlead GC0618-1SC aligns with your current and future sewing projects. Industrial machines offer robust performance but come with a steeper learning curve and may require more maintenance compared to domestic models. If you anticipate working extensively with heavy materials, this machine could be a suitable choice or any similar industrial sewing machine. Otherwise, a durable domestic sewing machine might better serve your needs as you develop your skills. Always consider your needs before you are going to pick one. If you are a beginner, and want to invest in a good sewing machine, I think just a reputable domestic one will be sufficient. Always have in mind what type of projects you are planning to complete and what is the level you are planning to sew. If you think there will be a need to take your hobby to next level, then yes, an industrial one could be the right step. Also remember, Highlead machines are Chinese-made copycats of other well known brands, and this is not always a good thing. We all heard the saying "you got what you paid for". Good luck with everything!!

My mom got me one of these for my birthday in 2012. It has been challenged in every possible way by me and a couple of my kids too. Unfortunately, just a few days ago I was cleaning it, and it shorted out because I had unplugged the wrong power supply. I was devastated when the shop quoted me $389 for service when the machine currently costs $400 in my area. Thankfully, the manager overhead my discussion with the repair tech. She said they had just received a factory refurbished one at their warehouse this morning. It only cost me $108, and I get to pick it up on Monday. Ironically, this will be the second time I receive this model on my birthday! Thank you very much for the lovely video.

I have put mine through so much as well but is still standing and putting up with me daily. I first sit down in front of this one before I sit in front of my Heavy Duty Singer or my industrial Juki. Good luck and i hope you are going to make some amazing things again, soon!

Hi @Mheldz09 and thank you very much for stopping by!! First of all, congratulations on your decision! You will be so happy looking back in years, and realizing that, it was the best money you've ever spent! When selecting a sewing machine as a beginner, it is very important to prioritize durability and reliability to ensure a smooth learning experience. Based on recommendations and user reviews, here are three top choices currently available and I also want to ad to this, that in my opinion, Brother sewing machines are really durable and beginner friendly and great value for money. Check out Amazon Authorized Dealers for a great experience and avoid scams, get support and potentially a great deal, along with your local fabric store, most of the time they run sales and have a short course on site to teach you the basics. And if you do purchase one, keep the user's manual close by because that will help you understand how to make the most out of your sewing machine. I also encourage you to consider first what kinda projects you are interested in because if you want to sew thick fabrics, leather, wool ... you might want to consider a heavy duty sewing machine like Singer 4423. Good luck and let me know if I can help more with your journey!!! 1. Janome HD3000 This mechanical sewing machine is renowned for its sturdy construction and user-friendly features, making it ideal for beginners seeking longevity and ease of use. It offers 18 built-in stitches and a one-step buttonhole, providing versatility for various projects. The heavy-duty aluminum body ensures durability, and the machine's simplicity aids in a straightforward sewing experience. 2. Brother CS6000i A popular choice among beginners, this computerized sewing machine combines affordability with a range of features. It includes 60 built-in stitches, an automatic needle threader, and a jam-resistant drop-in bobbin. The adjustable sewing speed and LCD screen enhance user control and convenience. Its lightweight yet robust design ensures both portability and durability. 3. Singer Heavy Duty 4423 This model is highly appreciated for its powerful motor and solid metal frame, offering durability and high-speed stitching. With 23 built-in stitches, including basic, stretch, and decorative options, it caters to various sewing needs. The automatic needle threader and top drop-in bobbin system add to its user-friendly features, making it suitable for beginners aiming for long-term use.

Thank you for your kind words and for watching! I've used an invisible zipper. I have posted a video about how I sew an invisible (hidden) zipper and I am going to post this link here in case you have a bit of time to watch it. All you need is an invisible zipper, a zipper foot and a bit of patience to practice. Have handy a seam ripper and a blade to undo stitches if something goes wrong. Ant it will in the beginning, and to be honest with you, sometimes even after sewing a bunch you will still make some mistakes, that's okay!! But with a bit of practice you will become a pro!! Wonderful result! Thank you for your advice about sewing machine! I ended buying singer stylist 7258. I guess that panel color of teal got me:-)) I like it, but can't figure out why I can't use zigzag on satin fabric. It just gathers fabric. Could you please advise, where to look for an answer? I bought needle 70/10, guttermann polyester thread all purpose. Tension is automatic. I tried a tissue paper under satin, still no result.
@silviasvault
@silviasvault 2 ай бұрын
Hi there!! First of all .. CONGRATULATIONS!! this is very exciting time! I hope you will make some amazing project with it. The issue you're encountering with your Singer Stylist 7258 sewing machine causing satin fabric to gather while using a zigzag stitch could be due to several factors. Satin is a delicate and slippery fabric, which can make it prone to puckering or gathering if not handled correctly. Here are a few suggestions to help you solve this problem, I know you mentioned doing couple of things but I will include them anyone, hopefully it will help you at some point! 1. Adjust the Tension Settings High thread tension can cause puckering on delicate fabrics. Try lowering the upper thread tension on your machine slightly and test on a scrap piece of satin. Ensure the bobbin thread tension is balanced as well. 2. Use a Stabilizer Satin can be challenging to sew because it's slippery and thin. Use a stabilizer underneath or on top of the fabric to provide extra support. Tear-away or wash-away stabilizers are good options. 3. Switch to a Different Needle! Use a fine, sharp needle like a Microtex or a size 70/10 needle, which is designed for lightweight fabrics like satin. Check that the needle is not dull or damaged, as this can snag the fabric. 4. Select the Right Stitch Length and Width A zigzag stitch with too short a length can gather the fabric. Increase the stitch length and experiment with the width until you find a setting that works well for your satin. Test adjustments on scraps of the same fabric. 5. Reduce the Presser Foot Pressure Satin is delicate, and too much pressure from the presser foot can cause gathering. Check if your Singer 7258 allows you to adjust the presser foot pressure and reduce it if possible. 6. Use the Right Presser Foot A satin foot or non-stick foot can help reduce friction and allow the fabric to move more smoothly under the needle. 7. Stabilize the Fabric Edges Use fabric spray starch to temporarily stiffen the edges of the satin, making it easier to sew without puckering. 8. Check the Feed Dogs Ensure the feed dogs are clean and properly engaged to feed the fabric evenly. Dirt or lint can interfere with the fabric movement. The Singer Stylist 7258 is a versatile machine, but like most domestic sewing machines, it may require some adjustments to handle challenging fabrics like satin. While it's not really a specifically known issue for this machine, the gathering you're experiencing is common when sewing delicate fabrics without proper settings and accessories. If the problem persists despite these adjustments, maybe it could be worth consulting the user manual or reaching out to Singer's customer support for additional guidance. Let me know how it goes! But regardless of any issues you might have in the beginning, remember not to get frustrated and keep going, we all been there and still figure out some things and learning curb is a real thing! Reach out any time 🤗

My thoughts on Haven NCL. I come from NCL family too. In the 90s I was a headliner entertainer on NCL as well as other top lines like Celebrity, Crystal and once on Cunard. When I cruise -- I prefer quiet elegance, no screaming kids and top service. Of course families have the right to book Haven-- but I feel since all "kiddie" attractions are on lower decks. NCL Haven is best geared towards retired, or adult travels 50 and older. I have my own tips for those who want the 5 star Haven experience away from typical touristy families and screaming kids. (1) If you happen to live in California I like booking Haven for 5 day shorter Mexican Baja cruises on the off season when weather is still nice. October is my favorite month to cruise because weather is still beautiful like Summer in CA and Mexico, kids are school (less families), and I love Halloween and fall flavors. If traveling with close friends this can be ideal. I only paid about $3500 for my own private suite with a lovely balcony terrace with a table for 4 and 3 lounge chairs. Living in Long Beach it was like just 20 minutes to the ship, with VIP check in and no crowds. We literally just had a nice cocktail and hors d'oeuvres and then our butler took us to private elevator and our suite. If you talk with your butler ahead of time (most NCL will have your butler call you before cruising to learn your needs and wants). So my butler was amazing!!!! I told him I was plant-based vegan , how I like me tea, what books I like to read etc. And when we arrived at the suite . .afternoon tea was set up etc. Lovely well thought out welcome. Many believe you HAVE to eat in the restaurants. But we often opted to have our butler bring dinner from the restaurant to our suite. Much more quaint and intimate. There were no problems with kids and crowds. So in the Haven pool area we were able to always find not in use jacuzzi, sun bathing chairs and the sauna. The bartender and concierge got to know us and our tastes and recommended drinks etc. Also as an entertainer I just asked on what lounges had elegant music, and quieter feel. We did see a show 2nd night and just told our butler. He escorted us to the show and we avoided long lines and crowds. Same was with departing in Cabo. Easy no wait Haven check in. I LOVE ADULTS ONLY. Though I come from a large family and have no fewer than 15 nephews/nieces. When I travel I want quiet. Haven doesn't disappoint. I was so amazed to how well our butler listened to my tastes and recommended food. No problem that Haven restaurant had same menu every night. One can of course eat in any restaurant or have that brought up in room service So we had a varied delicious vegan menu. I had some wonderful wild mushroom pasta, an amazing cherries jubilee, and fabulous nachos with blood orange margaritas. Of course I say make travel as easy as possible. This is why I prefer quick cruises to Mexico over having to hop on a plane to NYC etc. I did all of the Caribbean with NCL in my youth so I'm perfectly content with Mexico and maybe I will do NCL to Alaska out of SF we'll see.

There is no kit with everything included for a sewing, so I have to supply my own sewing room:-) To start, I'd like to hear your advice -If all I want is to make cami and slip dresses for myself from crepe de chine and silk satin which sewing machine will do? Thank you and have a wonderful day 🥰! Di
@silviasvault
@silviasvault 3 ай бұрын
Hi Di! It sounds like you're on an exciting journey into sewing! For your cami and slip dresses, I recommend looking for a sewing machine that has a good range of stitch options. Brands like Brother or Janome have some great models for beginners! Unless you truly niche down to Leather handbags of stuff like that, the machine is really not that important since there is not just a specific commercial machine for a specific fabric, but has to do with the stitches, thread, needle and tension you are using and those things will determine the success of your project. When you decide on a machine, before you even set it up, get to know it... generally the instruction manual has everything you need to know for your machine. Recommendations for use with different types of fabric and the machine settings. When you purchase your fabric, please grab a range of different sizes of needles. Thin work best with this fabrics, otherwise will leave big wholes. Always practice on scraps how to control your fabric, the speed, the stitches and so on and you will easily find the best way to get amazing results. I wish you good luck and enjoy every part of this amazing journey! 😘

Did they have a major type of Broadway production show on the main stage or was it just smaller shows?
@silviasvault
@silviasvault 3 ай бұрын
Hi there, they had few smaller shows for almost every night of the week, but they also had the main show which last season when we sailed was FOOTLOOSE, with a very talented cast. We got this show twice in a row, for two different cruises because they considered this show being very successful and kept it for a little longer. I had a chat with the Cruise Director and he mentioned that the Footloose broadway show will be replace potentially with THE CHOIR OF MEN, similar scale production and live musicians or Wheel Of Fortune?!?!. Still in the air. Hopefully that will be as good as others. I still think the time they use to have The Jean Ann Ryan Production Company, If anyone remembers them, those were the absolute best shows! If you are going on any NCL cruise, make the most of it and enjoy! It's about having fun and building life long lasting memories!! Let me know how it went!

Hello and thank you for stopping by! Great question! Folding fabric can be a bit tricky at first. To fold it properly, start by laying it out flat and then bring the two selvages together. The selvages are the finished edges of the fabric that prevent fraying, usually running along the length of the fabric. And by the way, this is a age-old question of fabric folding! It’s like trying to solve a Rubik’s cube but with softer edges. Just remember, if it looks like a burrito, you’re probably doing it right!

Not only do you get to express your personal style in a way that no store can match, but you also get the satisfaction of creating something with your own hands. It’s more sustainable, saves you money in the long run, and every piece is a unique reflection of you. Plus, once you start, you’ll realize how empowering it is to control your wardrobe and never settle for clothes that don’t fit perfectly. Sewing is like a superpower! Happy Sewing 😘

6:39 I have a cat, Miss Stripes, she is a tortoiseshell and white cat, too. She just LOVES sleep on and in my fabric. Even when I need some to cut a pattern, she is right there getting in the way laying all over the fabric!

@@silviasvault Today I am having to cut out some BIG panels for sewing. Normally, I do all that right here in my kitchen. Centrally located, I have my Butterfly JA2-1 sewing machine here, reels of cotton (ACTUAL cotton not polyethylene) and, of course, my iron. But, these pattern pieces are HUGE!!! My cutting table here is just TOO SMALL!!! So...I went to my shop to see...no, that table was bigger, but still not be enough. So, let me check the office...and clear off the draughting able and, wallah! The draughting table is large enough for the pattern pieces to fit! There are SIX MORE CATS in there!!! My oldest cat, Miss Patches, I caught burying herself into my fabric...just like Miss Stripes does! And all the other cats are laying on the fabric. I'M SURROUNDED BY A BUNCH OF *HAMS*!!!!

hi! Loved this video! I have this machine since a long time ago and I just started using it. I try to use the embroidery attachment but it keeps showing me the same error mistake D: it tells me to raise the presser foot even when it's already up.

Thank you for stopping by!! It sounds like your sewing machine is not detecting that the presser foot is raised, even though it physically is. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue: 1. Check the Presser Foot Sensor: The machine has a sensor that detects whether the presser foot is up or down. If this sensor is dirty or malfunctioning, the machine may not register the correct position. Try cleaning around the presser foot area with a soft cloth or compressed air 2. Reboot the Machine: Turn off the machine and unplug it for a few minutes. Then, turn it back on. Sometimes, a simple reboot can clear small software glitches. 3 Reattach the Embroidery Unit: Try detaching and reattaching the embroidery unit to ensure it is properly connected. Sometimes, an improper connection between the machine and the unit can cause errors. This one in particular works for me most of the time. Also check for some fabric stuck under the presser foot or needle plate. If none of these steps will resolve the issue, it might be a hardware issue with the presser foot sensor itself. In that case, you might have to contact Brother support or maybe taking the machine to a certified technician for repair would be a good idea. The website is going to give you few locations in your state. I am so protective of my sewing machines because they are saving so much money!! Happy Sewing!!! 🙂
