Do you need 4wd to get to this spot?
@Thunderadventurecompany5 жыл бұрын
Mile High V - Justin B. You don’t really need 4WD anywhere along there from Angelus Oaks all the way up Clark’s Grade to Big Bear. Except for one spot on Clark’s Grade last time I was there was kinda washed out and might not have been passable in 2WD if going up. Don’t know the condition this year.
@Thunderadventurecompany5 жыл бұрын
Mile High V - Justin B. If you’re just talking about the river then 2WD car is fine.

Thunder Adventure Company gotcha. Thanks for the quick reply. I meant this exact spot, #30. I found 30 on the map the other day and it looked like a nice area. Don’t have 4wd these days, got back into cars, lol. Wife has a 2wd Explorer, tho.
@Thunderadventurecompany5 жыл бұрын
Mile High V - Justin B. In that case I’d just go in from Big Bear on Mill Creek Road. 2WD is fine. 30 is a great spot! 25 is also really nice if 30 is taken. You’ll see 25 first.

Awesome! Welcome! Yellow Post sites are awesome. Don't have to worry about disturbing others or being disturbed. There are many around here. There's a user on myjeeprocks.com by the name of FishPOET that has many great write ups. Just google "myjeeprocks yellow post" and you'll find lots of info. Also try "totalescape yellow post".

Very nice video, I liked it a lot. These kids look fantastic. However, only as an observation for you to value it as you see fit, 6 and 8 years old, are very small ages to carry very heavy backpacks for that age. Keep in mind that it is not healthy for the backs of those children if the backpacks are too heavy (I do not know if they were too tight or not). For them to feel the adventure, perhaps the best thing is that they carry in their backpack their sleeping bag (which is bulky and fills the backpack to have them feel that the backpack is full and they load it full), and something more like their survival equipment, front lantern, whistle, and things like that are necessary if they are lost, but they do not weigh, and the parents load the rest of their equipment so that the kids carry the minimum weight. Once they are older, they can carry a heavy backpack. Greetings from Spain and congratulations for such a beautiful video. Thanks for sharing.
@Thunderadventurecompany6 жыл бұрын
kevlar steiner totally agree! That's all they really had in there. Looked full but weren't heavy. Just bulky. Really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment, thank you!! 🙂

What a great video, and your kids are great I would backpack with them anytime Keep it up. what you are doing is the best thing for them. I saw your other video when you did Vivian Creek and the boys were younger wow, I just can’t believe your boys. I to have done Vivian creek and that first part is a killer, I also stayed at milled camp because we got a late start and it pitch black by the time we got there. I had my boy scouts with me. I live just down the road from V creek, may be one day we can all get together and do a trip. Is your tent a 3 season? After 2 other tenets I finally bought a Northface EV25, boom prof, best tent out there though a little heaver then the 7lber I have been used to carrying, but if you have 2 people you can split it up and its ok. And I have JanSort D2 Denali, had if for years still look new. And I use a MSR Dragonfly Stove, great stove un-like a lot of other stoves it burns hot no matter the altitude which can be a problem with compressed gas stoves You should check out the UCO Titan Stormproof Matches YOU WILL BE AMAZED!

Looking back on those videos I'm pretty surprised too. Those are some tough hikes! Thanks for the gear tips. I'll check them out. The tent I usually use is the Marmot Limelight 3P. It's a 3 season but I use it in the winter too. So far so good.

@@Thunderadventurecompany what pressure do you go down to? And only for your car. Or any car in the mountains?
@Thunderadventurecompany5 жыл бұрын
miguel arr looks like I went down to about 12psi in that video. Now that I have bead locks I go down to about 8psi. You can air down any tire for better traction as long as you have a way to air back up before hitting the road again afterwards. Not recommended on low profile tires. Might damage rims.

Hey hoping to grab a yellow post site up at Big Bear this weekend for our first time. This video was awesome! Since you have experience, I was wondering your take on storing food while camping. Do you think food in a cooler in a locked vehicle trunk will be secure and deter bears if in the slim chance one stumbles upon our site? Such a newb question but better safe than sorry, thanks... love the videos
@Thunderadventurecompany7 жыл бұрын
Hey man, have a great time! Wish I was going too :) I always use a BearVault. They're good for backpacking too if you do that or think you might in the future. They're a little limited in space so I usually use two when car camping. A determined bear may try to get into a vehicle if there are scented items inside like deodorant, gum, sunscreen, food, drinks, trash etc. So I try to keep all of those things out of vehicles, tents, and backpacks to reduce the chance of damage. Another thing I always try to do is keep a clean campsite and do all food prep/cooking away from the tents/sleeping area. I've never encountered a bear up there but I have heard a couple reports of people who have. All that said, I'm sure most people just keep their coolers in their trunks and never have a problem. Would love to hear what site you end up at!
@joebrennan11787 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Thanks for the advice, I'll let you know where we end up!

I injured my leg riding my bicycle somehow about a year and a half ago and it's been real stubborn getting back to normal. It finally feels like I might be on the home stretch. Going to be cautious and see how it goes.

Great video. Which packs are your little guys carrying. They look like a good size for them.
@Thunderadventurecompany7 жыл бұрын
Thanks J! The youngest is carrying a Deuter Fox 40 which I really like. Nice slim profile so it doesn't catch on branches etc. My oldest is carrying an REI pack. I forget the model. It's a wider profile and I don't like it as much. It holds more but that isn't really important at their age since they can't carry much weight anyways.
