Micheal McDonald always looks as if he is saying, "Look stop saying I sound like a black man like a Brother"

Your asses, this is live. 2 or 3 trumpets with one sax and drummer bashing out on a Roland Rhythm Composer, which is about the size of a small Amazon box.

Definitely the 80’s I see a Yamaha DX50 Michael is playing , the sound of the 80’s the dreaded Frequency Modulation or FM synthesis!

Man, it sounds great. Way better than the strat he plays with Michael on The Tonight Show around the same era. I wonder what made him not use that guitar. I think he's a LP/Tele guy...or I guess just traditional models. The sound of his here makes me want to try one. Not that I could even approximate Robben! ha

Thanks for posting! This is the only live version of Sweet Freedom from 1986 on KZbin (that I’m aware of). This aired 10/16/1986 on The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers. It’s also one of the earliest live (not lip synced) solo performances on the tube-I think this is the earliest from 1983: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nnu2o6drm6yKi9U

I was 14 when I first heard his songs. I’ve been to see him in Manchester two or three times now. I absolutely love this song. Second only to Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance with Somebody. Saw her in 1987 at the NEC in Birmingham. Both great singers

Well fluffed hair in the front and laxed hair in the back, as the crew from rifftrax would say, Michael McDonald’s mullet is here to play.

Love it in the original arrangement, this is peak Mcdonald his songs require so much power and I think that must have taken its toll. One of my absolute favourites
