What would you add to the sideboard if you remove stone brain?

Sorin has no synergy with any other card in the deck. I feel like if you played ripper in this it would be by itself and ramp into it with goose/dispute or reanimate it with talent

It’s genuinely insane to me that people can prefer, right now, modern to pioneer. Like do I think pioneer is in a great spot? No not really but when you look at the most common complaints about pioneer it’s the turn 3 decks or plays. Modern right now is like that but every deck is doing the stupid thing and also the stupid thing wins on the spot with an incredibly resilient combo rather then being fully stopped by a fatal push. I genuinely have the opinion that because being on the ‘modern team’ requires sinking a huge amount of money they’re forced to say the format is fine when, if we’re being honest here, modern has kind of been a race to the bottom for a while now.

Hey I have been grinding this deck since you posted your first video on it. I think it's pretty good. I've found 4 each of Push and Thoughtseize to be really valuable in the main deck. I do not like Thronvault Forager at all and have cut it. I think Camellia is super great and am playing 3. She is a great fair plan if they have graveyard hate. I am also playing a 1 of in the main and side of The Meathook Massacre. The card is perfect for the deck I think and is findable off of Trail of Crumbs. I hope you keep playing the deck and love the content!

Interesting to see if this deck eventually ends up Jund for some number of Bloodtithe/Claim the Firstborne/Mayhem Devil, this is the kind of Magic I love! Edit: I tested Jund. It was bad. The red cards don't interact well with the format. Mayhem Devil has become small-ball and I don't think this deck wants maindeck Fatal Push, let alone Claim. Fable is by far the best red card, but it's not worth butchering your manabase. If you play Golgari you get to use Fountainport, Cavern of Souls, etc.

You shouldn't concede to amalia comboing off, there's still plenty of ways this deck can win against that. Mill their aeterflux with talent, chump a 21/21 amalia with cat every time, then you just combo harder than them cause you go infinite and drain/mill them out

hey, im the person who’s been 5-0ing with this, really cool to see you playing the deck! i have duress over thoughtseize cuz i didnt feel like buying them on mtgo lo (and the not losing 2 life is nice vs the RG aghro decks)l, the manabase is scuffed because the deck used to have 4 heaped harvest so had a lot of basics. Also agreed that the 7 squirrels could be literally anything else, i very often cut them post board against any matchup trying to kill you after t4,i just like them atm more than anything else and thornvault mentor makes your other cards slightly more powerful by creating a ton of material. im sure jund would be good too for overall card quality as fable lets you ramp like thornvault but havent tried it yet.

Really hyped about this deck ! Thanks for the video It reminds me of a food/scale golgari build form some time ago from Claudioh if I am not mistakening. One nice card in that deck that I will try in this one is elvish archivist since it will trigger with almost all the deck.

hi tandy, ggs i enjoyed the video. i played roughly 20-30 matches with the deck and wanted to share my exp with it: worked great: talent (!!), all 1-drops, and 1 foutainport land worked good: camellia squirrel and bristlebud farmer main worked worse than expected: trail of crumbs (shove a few copies to SB but none main), dispute, thornvault, PYP other tests: pawpatch formation and witherbloom command (SB); and tarrians journal and feed the cycle main love your content, keep pioneer stuff coming :)

Glad you're trying this! I quite like a few Camellia, gives the deck a bit of a plan b while also being another way to make cat oven better

I've been messing with this archetype and find that rottenmouth viper is a great plan B, especially against graveyard hate. also I'm on Satyr wayfinder and tough cookie over forager and mentor. tough cookie is similar to mentor except you have the make a good a creature mode that's pretty sweet, and wayfinder is just a self-mill enabler to have additional looks at finding cats and ygras for the combo

that one new mouse from bloomburrow has almost the same text as the scamp, and there is an insanely fast standard deck with both of them. Maybe thats the way to go for pioneer as well, with a few adjustments

I think you should probably try Kroxa, you can hit it off amped raptor and get the trigger and then its in the gy to build the goyf more and so you can escape it on t4, i play a one of in my goyf/shadow/scam deck and it works so well with not dead after all also

i know this is probably a hella late comment, but monsterous rage is actually an omega keep in the amalia match up because i believe you can force a game draw whenever they combo. Amalia board wipe only happens when shes at EXACTLY 20, so if you attach rage to her when she hits 19 the game state will loop and force a draw and give you free redos (:

Been enjoying Hired Claw in my old Explorer Obosh deck this morning in place of Phoenix Chick. Nice to have some extra mass alongside Bonecrusher.

I love playing this deck, but I’ve been thinking about playing Izzet wizards recently. I think it’s better favored against tron and Nadu and can still win against energy decks. Kitsa, Otterball elite might work if bow becomes less favored.

I feel like game 3 vs the first Phoenix was still winnable. Attacking with Trailblazer either puts them to 2, makes them chump with Picklock (unlocks PyP) or they trade with Drake. You even drew an elf to have potentially 5 mana on you next turn.

I haven't watched the video yet but looking at leyline, it makes me wonder if its worth experimenting with other off-color fun-of's. I'm thinking atraxa, vein ripper, or even shark typhoon, but I've always approached the game with a more casual lens. That said, I think Nykthos is headed for a ban
