My kid will throw a literal hissy fit like those memes of kids smashing their computers and I was all like trying to remember if I was ever like that and maybe after losing by a hair in the sort of game where you have to start all over if you die 3-5 times but usually no. I thought how I could improve and relentlessly practiced. Medusa really would test the gaming skills. Besides tanking in a dungeon. Miss that 🙅🏿😊

He seriously acts like a sissy when he doesn’t immediately master something in the Spider-Man game and I’m like dude… Try jumping through those hoops in Ecco When I was trying to find that to give him an example You reminded me of fighting Medusa. It’s a different type of difficulty but still a valid challenge that kids just don’t face in games these days

I hate, hate, HATE, this level. I'm prepared to concede that maybe it's a skill problem, but this level is just a dick. It's one of those levels that feels like it might have put in to frustrate people renting the game. Actually, that's one of my problems with the Ecco games in general: there are a few areas in both games that are just unnecessarily dickish. Why throw you back for failing a level that's already a pain? Sure, you can reset and use the password, but that's still a pain.

These levels looks like a spaceship or a base straight out of Dr. Eggman. I used to call these levels the Vortex Queen Airship. Also these strange sucking balls look like pokeballs. I now have a feeling where Pokemon got the design idea.

How I’d rewrite the epilogue. “The Queen retreats within her new machine. When Ecco leaves she escapes in the form of a Vortex Larva. The Queen makes her way to the sunken city of Atlantis and the Time Machine. She escapes to Earth’s past where she encounters prehistoric creatures she cannot rule. With no way back to the present, the Vortex have no choice but to integrate into Earth’s environments giving rise to the arthropods and crustaceans. Ecco meanwhile, returns to the City of Forever to destroy the Time Machine. However he has too many questions and so he uses the machine instead. Why were such things left for him to use? He travels to the distant past to meet the ancient Atlanteans. He will have answers”

Well when a whale is very old and at the end when it's at the end of its life, their body gets too heavy and makes them drown because their too weak sadly

My dream is some day someone much smarter than me will do fan-made "HD" remakes of Ecco and Ecco 2, with more animation frames on the sprites, improved backgrounds, remixes of the music, etc. And then, do a demake of Defender of the Future, consider it Ecco 3 and maybe even have the "Secret Password" actually do something.

I have a love hate relationship with this game. I love it because it is such a unique and wonderful concept and offers such a captivatingly surreal experience, far ahead of its time I hate it because it is such a shitty, sadistic game that purposefully abuses everyone that has ever tried to simply enjoy it

I wonder if this level was supposed to come before The Eye? Considering how all the globes are close together, and the level doesn't force you down specific paths, this level seems "easier" than the previous one. Maybe there was a coding error or something, so Deep Ridge intentionally/unintentionally became the last level instead of first.

For reference I was in ITT tech at the time this was going on back in the 2000s. 18 to early 20's was my age at the time back then so it was just an appropriate thing for my life stage at that time. But I still remember it to this day so I thought I'd add to this. Just wanted to help out. I cut my teeth and potty trained listening to Black Sabbath in the 70's. Not the best parenting ever but I had to forgive them for it. I still on very rare occasions still talk to my mom but on account of being into bands like this I was made a black sheep of the whole family and they disowned me for my lifestyle choices that I had made at that time. Back then pornography was not at all whatsoever acceptable like it is now. If you as a daughter engaged in the business of adult videos and then participated in night clubs as an adult entertainer you were just automatically disowned by your own entire family and friends in some cases too. It's how I ended up homeless on the streets after I went through all that mess. Long story for another day though. It doesn't really apply here. But I want to put it out there because some people might not be aware of that now that we have a new generation coming up and I want to clear that up right now so there's an awareness of it and everyone else knows now what happened to me as well too.

I didn't learn this until years after I played the game, but it turns out they didn't make up "medusa" for jellyfish. That's what the free-swimmimg jellyfish form is called, in contrast with sea anemones and corals (and larval jellyfish) which are "polyps" and attached to the seafloor. It gets more complicated than that but the short is "medusa" and "jellyfish" are synonyms, in marine biology.

So... this is the Hard Mode exclusive levels that's basically Welcome to the Machine with a vengeance, right? Also, that "Trans" level (I assume it means transition), is it the same that plays out if you're eaten by the Vortex Queen?

I always thought maybe the "cute" vortex were male and the scary ones female or vice versa
