I do not see many thermal scopes with much sunshade forward of the objective lens. How concerned should a hunter be in engaging game that has the sun behind them? Should I look for a thermal with a shade or add a shade to a thermal I get? I also wonder how much I should worry if I have the scope digitally zoomed and the sun is just outside the frame I am looking at. Then it might be baking part of my sensor is this a valid concern?

The main problem which gets left out in videos like this is that a monocular isn't a rifle scope you can use to shoot at the target animal. A rifle isn't dangerous till there is a round in the chamber. If you have less than 10k to spend and you buy a monocular. You aren't getting a scope as well unless you get a very cheap monocular. A tripod for your rifle so you can swing the rifle around easily is much cheaper than a monocular. Or shoot from a vehicle rifle rest. Get a monocular if you can afford both.

@Australian Sporting Agencies are any recommended factory loads shooting sub moa for the 308?
@AustralianSportingAgencies Жыл бұрын
@@antoniohyp44 in terms of recommendations, the most important aspect is that the ammo has enough gas pressure to cycle the bolt. Meaning if there is not enough pressure, the bolt may not go all the way back and returns without picking up a round. The older the speedline, the lighter ammo can be used as the spring settles in. As we have seen issues with PPU when the speedline is new, so you might want to stay clear of the very cheap stuff. Other than that you can use whatever ammo best suits your particular speedline. I would test 5-8 different ammos and see which one performs best. Lastly, to have very good accuracy with the speedline, the two action screws that hold the barrel and chamber in place need to be tight, consider non permant locktight as well, we have seen some guns like the one from Ozzie Reviews not being tight enough hence causing larger groups. Just a pro tip to keep an eye on.

Would you recomend this over a tl35 from infiray?
@goingdark1187 Жыл бұрын
Hey mate, I can't answer that question without knowing more about your reason for the scope and the terrain you are shooting in. As a rule of thumb, the xq38 is good for pigs and close work, whereas the tl35 is good for dogs, foxes and most deer. That said the xq35 is better and newer. We actually don't sell the xq38 anymore. If between the xq35 and tl35, choose the xq35. That said, infiray annouced the tl35 V2 yesterday so that might change the recommendation again, we have to wait and see how they perform. Hi Kai, I personally haven't looked though the ATN but looking at the specs and considering airsoft. All you really need to do is to find a heat signature. You can be ensured that it is a human as you are on a battle field. Also given that your shooting ranges are not 500m or something like that you will get away with an entry level monocular like the ots-xlt. Alternatives would be that I used: goingdark.com.au/night-tech-stealth-series-xd-mini-ii-thermal-monocular/ goingdark.com.au/infiray-eye-series-v2-0-c2w-thermal-imaging-monocular/ Hope that helped Bastian

Hi Don, hard to say without knowing what you want to shoot and what sort of budget you are looking at. With rimfire ranges you generally can get way with a 19mm to 35mm lens which depends on your target. 19mm would get you a large field of view for targets that move or are in mobs. 35mm would rather be for dogs or foxes, where you want to use the max range and will most likely only shoot ones. If I know your budget and target then I can make specific recommendations.

Those rifles have big reliability and accuracy problems.
@goingdark11872 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, I had never problems with mine. That said people need to understand how semi auto mechanisms work to judge if they are or are not reliable. I found that PPU does not create sufficient gas pressure to reload properly and sometimes it closes on an empty chamber. This doesn't mean that the rifle unreliable, it just means that that ammo is not the right one for the fire arm. Last point, the 10 round after market mag unfortunately didn't come with a block hence the rounds are seated to far back causing reloading issues. Again, not the original mag, so no dramas there. In terms of accuracy, the rifle needs handloads to really be accurate sub 1 inch. I tried 15 off the shells ammos and couldn't find one that performs at 1 MOA. Hope this helped
@angusanderson41172 жыл бұрын
@@goingdark1187 thanks for your reply. I've actually sold mine. You shouldn't have to have handloads just to get 1 inch at 100 yards. Handloads often are used to get 1 inch at 700 yards. Its also not fair on hunters who don't handload. Another issue is if you miss time your follow up shots and hold the trigger while pressing the lever it causes a catastrophic failure which bends an internal piece of the rifle and requires a gunsmith to fix. This can be a massive problem if your out on a week long or even a weekend hunt especially as its such as easy mistake to make. Especially if some unfamily with a speedline uses your rifle. I know because it happened to me. I also had a run in with some wild dogs once while out deer hunting and the idea this failure might happen while the adrenaline was pumping sent some chills down my spine. Because we were surrounded by dogs. Fortunately we got away without having to fire at them. But the reliability issue and the fact that this problem can't be fixed by simply clearing the firearm mean't there was a chance I'd be using the rifle as a club. The final small issue was the barrel was very prone to copper fouling I'd have to use 20 plus patches and 15 to 20 goes up and down with the bronze brush to get all the copper out after firing only 10 rounds. it should be noted I always use top quality bore cleaner and I ran in the barrel when I bought the rifle.
@goingdark11872 жыл бұрын
@@angusanderson4117 fair call. The trigger finger issue sucks, luckily I haven't done that yet, fingers crossed
@angusanderson41172 жыл бұрын
@@goingdark1187 yeah but it could happen to you in an emergency, like what happened to me with the wild dogs. Because that was nuts, they hunted us and surrounded us. If the failure had happened then it could have been bad. But its also the accuracy, I mean hand loads required for a 1 inch at 100 yards, thats bullshit. Other true semi autos are much more accurate than that, with factory ammo. Then finally the copper fouling, I mean that was just annoying.

Can you get a after market barrel for these?
@goingdark11872 жыл бұрын
I don't think you can. The issue is that it is a gas piston mechanism so you need to drill two holes into the barrel for the gases to escape to drive the piston. If you don't get the holes right then you stuff the gun. I assume due to the relatively small number of these rifles that there is no company that bothers to make them. Then again, that is just an assumption. Try the importer Australian Sporting Agency, they might be able to help.

The sights fell off. The stock was poor finish. Would feed the round and the next round would hit and jam the bolt. Would fire couple shots then start to jam even when not catching the next round.
