At the end of the day, it’s so wonderful that you guys can explore NZ in this way. So few can afford to do this and to use the sea to get to the best bays and coves is a master stroke! I hope your offshore antics expands your lifestyle too….!

Most yachts miss it out because it's too shallow and the harbour/anchorage are very small.
@anotherwayoflifenz3 ай бұрын
Yea we were told that before we went but didn’t seem to have to many issues. I guess having a cat with a shallow draught helped. For us it was well worth the stop and we would have been gutted to miss it. Thanks for the comment! 👍🏽

@@anotherwayoflifenz It has been excavated/dredged a bit in the last couple of years, but it's still a bit limited. What was the minimum depth you saw?
@anotherwayoflifenz3 ай бұрын
I think probably the shallowest we saw were 2.5 metres. It seems like they have almost finished dredging the harbour for the local boats and are now working on a new harbour just for cruisers which will be awesome !

I want to know how you’ve done it. I’m working on captains courses myself and I haven’t found my way to get around the world. What’s some advise you could give on becoming a captain and being sustainable at sea financially.
@anotherwayoflifenz4 ай бұрын
Hi Alex, thanks for the question. To be fair it’s been a long time in the making. Before we got our first small yacht we worked for 4-5 years in corporate jobs to pay for that yacht/ lifestyle. Then since we have both ended up with our yacht masters we spend the Nz winters over in the Caribbean working as Captain/ chef on luxury yachts to pay for the off season where we live on our yacht and travel. I guess if you work hard and make small sacrifices (we very rarely eat out/ or buy coffee even haha) there are ways to make it work. Hope that helps!?
@alexbeaton45434 ай бұрын
@@anotherwayoflifenz yea that’s awesome. Can you tell me more about the captain/ chef position you do for work. Also the kind of opportunities are you looking for in a potential yacht gig.
@anotherwayoflifenz4 ай бұрын
the captain / chef position is like a chartering position. You can look online for opportunities once you have your ticket (eg yachtmaster). We just cruise on our own yacht in the off season if that’s what your wondering
@alexbeaton45434 ай бұрын
@@anotherwayoflifenz yea right on. What’s the process leading up to taking your yacht master like? How much tine did you spend sailing and studying?
@anotherwayoflifenz4 ай бұрын
we had lived on our yacht for 2 years before so had quite a bit of experience coming into it. But I’m saying that other people were quite fresh. We did it for 3 months in Gibraltar. If you look at some of our early videos you can see some of our training during it 🤙🏽

Hey you’re back on KZbin. Nice video. How was the process of buying the boat. Any hidden issues with the boat.
@anotherwayoflifenz5 ай бұрын
Hey!!! Yes we are, had a bit of a break from it all as we really wanted to get back to yacht life content and now we have a boat we can do it again! Firstly it took over a three years to find the right one. I think I scrolled every yacht selling site (yacht world, yachtmarket, boat 24, Facebook groups etc etc) every day for over a year and I am pretty sure I knew almost every boat on the internet! Then my parents flew all around Europe looking at different boats for us but at the end of the day nothing we found had the right equipment for off the grid sailing within our relatively tight budget. So we actually gave up on looking at catamarans and started back looking at monohulls. We also shifted to looking in Tahiti as more boats had all the equipment as they had just crossed the Pacific. Was funny changing mindset from starting sailing in the med to the Pacific but it has been so amazing we wouldn't have it any other way. In terms of the actual sale process, I spent a week with the previous owner and he showed me everything on the boat, we did a test sail and got the yacht up for a survey etc... It was quite difficult to coordinate it all in French Polynesia but once it was all completed there were no real hick ups. Sorry for the novel... maybe we can chat about it all more in our upcoming videos :) Thanks for the comment.
