Thank you for this informative episode. Really enjoyed Dr. Paul Puri. Hoping, if you haven’t already, you’ll explore metabolic psychiatry and the studies that are showing clinical remission in a significant amount of patients, especially those with insulin resistance. The solutions are coming on strong for a large percentage of the seriously mentally ill, and we can’t advance this protocol to become standard of care quick enough in order to save lives. Refer to Metabolic Mind, Dr. Christopher Palmer, Dr. Georgia Ede, Dr. Shebani, Sethi, etc.

I worked for Telus Sandy I requested the NDA and all the paperwork I signed in training. The HR has been dodging me for over a week, also finding a way to contact you is impossible. They fired me after I told them I had PTSD and needed to find help.

I remember waiting for your book to come out. It was around the time my therapist retired, so every time I read it, it would make me sad I don't have him anymore but i wanted to read it so much. Your ted talk was the first time I realized other people felt similar to me. Then my worried mom took my phone away until I "used it for good things" she didn't know it made me feel connected to know others felt the same. I can't wait finish your book. Thank you for sharing your story

Such a simple, but incredible force in a world drenched in pain & uncertainty. They gave me such joy as a child, and it brings me even greater joy to pass along their music as an adult. God bless Sharon, Lois, and Bram for the spirit of dignity they give to children.

Most people weren’t “outraged” by the photo, I think most people just slowly shook their heads or rolled their eyes and asked “why is she doing this?” She helped him. She helped Trump by making all of his detractors look bad.

Anxiety may be normal, however, if anxiety is inappropriate and includes panic attacks for years without a known cause (death, disability, divorce, financial stress etc.) then medications are life saving and needed.

Hamas wasn’t even in the West Bank and the IDF bombed it. They bombed Jesus’ birthplace, and now 20 families have been erased since. 20 whole families have been completely wiped out. Killed. What kind of grief would these people feel whilst watching their family members die, one by one, just waiting for their time to join them? We need to talk about Palestine.
@Fluffadoodle
@Fluffadoodle 7 ай бұрын
This has nothing to do with the video, but I know you will listen. Not only do we need to talk about Palestine, but there are eight genocides happening in the world as we speak. *Eight.* And, as a survivor of child sexual abuse, hearing about minors being raped in Congo and Palestine doesn’t float my boat. Mark, not even Jacksepticeye is joining his Irish community, who are fiercely defending Palestine right now. Not even Illy, a jewish animator, is speaking up on this, when her community is marching for Palestine. The whole world is marching for Palestine. We need to talk about this. 🇾🇪🇿🇦🇵🇬🇨🇩🇵🇸🇭🇹

It's interesting you bring up that "illness like any other" narratives can be unhelpful. Personally, being both mentally and physically chronically ill, I've felt a lot of those narratives fail because they don't really take into account disability theory at all. People say mental health is just like physical health assuming physical health doesn't have any stigma, all while the event they're speaking at is inaccessible and the chronically ill people in the audience don't get acknowledged.

This is an excellent point. It doesn’t do what people think, and I’m convinced it embeds stigma further anyway

I’m blessed to be at Autism Queensland, but it costs SO much money and the NDIS doesn’t pay for that, especially when my family is struggling financially. Therapy is expensive, proper schooling for disabled children is expensive, people want to make money on people’s wellbeing.

Interesting how society wants people to "act" accordingly, maybe even "normal", yet let exist a person that defies logic. When you are affected by mental health issues logic is what you seek to achieve yet what you see around you are people encouraging what clearly is not logical. I understand that when TwiceImpeached was president he could use his political capital of his flock of sheep to keep him out of repercussions of his actions. But as ex-president he can no longer rely on that political capital to get him a "get out of jail card". Now he is in a legal situation that have its own rules and procedures that should be absent politics. But what does the dude do? He calls on his flock to riot in the streets! This person is not mentally healthy.

I love this! Makes me think about Mad Pride actually, and the push to say we're not broken, we're not wrong for feeling the ways we feel and don't need to be cured. I also think a lot about the role of psychiatry in cycles of abuse, where abuse victims are told they're just ill, that something is wrong with them, and instead of getting justice get further problems inflicted onto them. And it's difficult, because abuse victims/survivors frequently do need mental health care, but if that care isn't appropriate for them it can so easily push them away entirely and leave them more isolated.

This is absolutely it.Cycles of abuse and trauma and mental health services making it very difficult for people to actually come forward to ask for help and then being pathologised more when they reject help for maybe very good reasons.The system is ALWAYS right and the person diagnosed or pathologised is "wrong"or the broken one....never the system or those who work in it.

Hi Mark, I never knew who you were or the story of how Mike saved your life many years ago. I was in the library yesterday in my hometown and they had your book "So Called Normal" available to read. I am always interested in people and the struggles they have with life, so your book attracted my attention. I struggled with depression and some Social Anxiety as a child but always had supportive parents and family to help pull me through dark times in my life. I have since listened to your speech on Spotlight of your life story and was so fascinated by the way you connected with your audience telling your story. I also listened to your video reading the letter you received from Mike and was so glad you recorded it for others to benefit from your story. After listening to 3 or 4 videos about your struggles and story, I am so looking forward to reading your book, which I'm sure will be great as well. Thanks so much Mark and thankful I ran across your book yesterday. So glad that Mike had the drive and courage to hold a helping hand out to you to show someone cared about you and your life.

Sad to see this. Andre Picard has demonstrated time and time over his career that he is incapable of following developing science around issues, including the current pandemic. His subservience to government and corporations makes him little more than a stenographer.

Wonderful interview. Thank you for it. Alas it must be said that behind Vanier's "serenity" it turns out there was indeed more going on--and it was not congruent with his published writing and public speech. According to a joint statement by leaders of L'Arche International, Jean Vanier engaged in "manipulative and emotionally abusive" sexual relationships with six women between 1970 and 2005. Sexual relations were instigated by Vanier, usually in the context of giving 'spiritual guidance.'
