Did everything it was supposed to do. Nice build quality and decent price point. Just saw something about a Victron auto transformer and split phase output. What is your thoughts on them. I was thinking about alternative way to get split phase (240volt) out of a single phase setup. I would like to see what you thought about them.
@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD
@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD Күн бұрын
I haven’t used Victron AutoX or others. If I was wanting 240 split phase I would prefer a dedicated inverter to support this. (Less components to fail and less losses through the system) If I had 120V and wanted split phase I would buy a properly rated buck boost with 120V primary 120/240 secondary. There will be losses of course through the windings but it would be robust and provide decades of trouble free service.

LiFePO4 charges to 14.2-14.6 depending on your charge preference/cell voltage target. After coming off the charger within an hour or so, the voltage will usually settle to 13.5-13.6 and after 24 hours some will settle to 13.4-13.5. You can’t go off voltage like lead acid. I have some links to an affordable energy meter in the description that tracks the energy in/out of battery. Or you can use a larger 500A shunt and program it to coulomb count for you. Hope this helps!

Self heating batteries are appropriate for cold climates such as yours. The heaters warm the battery to an acceptable temperature before initiating charging to the cells. This is controlled by the battery BMS. Temgot battery is one example and has a nice unit out that is self heating. There are others out there too. Hope this helps!

Seems like a good camping unit since running a stove or similar shouldn’t be compromised by the dropping voltage under higher load.
@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD
@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD 5 күн бұрын
As long as load is under 2400 it retains proper and safe working voltages. Any resistive load (cooktops/heating elements) will just produce less power from a lower voltage. It’s inductive loads like refrigeration compressors, motors etc that can be harmed by the low voltage of this machine is overload. 👍

Thanks for sharing and the detailed tests! A big surprise with lowering the AC output Voltage in the 90s... Haven't seen this yet either. Interesting approach. Is there a peak or surge on this 2400W inverter?
@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD
@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD 5 күн бұрын
You’re most welcome! Peak is rated 4400W. (That was a 3300W load) the dropping voltage is part of a “soft start “ technique that some inverters use to try and start a load without tripping or melting the fuses off the PCB. This control logic is also seen in many 12V HF power inverters but they will usually trip in a shorter time frame. I would have run it longer but my other power station off camera that was part of the “load” was getting upset!

@THEOFFGRIDMOUNTAINHOMESTEAD

Thank you!! I wouldn’t series 2 (24V) LiFePO4 that will give you 51.2V nominal which exceeds the input voltage (48V max) boost charging in the unit, input has to be lower than battery voltage. This one has 15S battery which is 48V not 51.2 like a 16S pack. 2(12V LiFePO4) in series would work and would deliver 240-280W into the machine depending on SOC/voltage Hope this helps!

Good honest review. Discounted price of 32.5 cents per watt hour isn't bad. Personally I don't favor the boxes that you have to open a door to get to the AC. I know it adds protection and keep the dirt out but I like my plugs up front and easily accessible.

I usually don’t test to high current shutdown, my capacity test setup and inverter won’t handle extreme current testing. Regardless I would have OCPD at 100A on this battery if in use, so that would activate before a BMS overcurrent trip delay from either current sensing or thermal trip.

This is can do enginuity but I think the small solar panel might keep up with a boom box radio but not power tools and work lights for recharging that rig on the go.. The 80 watts or so that panel produces an hour is still very small and less than a kilowatt on a long summer day with full sun.. Tapping into the alternator output of a gasoline engine on an ATV could yield 10 to 15 amps DC at 13v would be the better/best choice and maybe putting a larger panel or couple panels as the roof of the rig to do some share would to me seem better..

As stated in the video I carry the small panel bc it fits in the bed. Also stated that 200W would be bare minimum to keep up with a 16cf refrigerator

It’s great to see how you’ve put together a practical and versatile setup for off-grid use. The 200Ah LiFePO4 battery you’re using looks like a solid choice, and it's impressive to see how well it performs in extreme conditions.

🤔 ? : it will require 250 hours of prime solar time for that 100 watt solar panel to charge the battery ; that is 10 days . What are you going to do for the 8 days that your battery has been totally discharged ?

Believe you’re off a digit. 5 hours @ 100W is 500Wh so 25 hours to charge from 0-100%. This panel was for a demonstration and one I keep in the back of cart or lay on the roof. As I stated in video it would be minimum of 200W of panel to keep up with a 40 watt per hour average refrigerator under good conditions. I charge the battery with a 25A charger from another small 12V system. Cart has its own charge controller and boost charger built in.
