What is the reason for taking the side cover off?
@bcapstick1005 жыл бұрын
So that you can slide out the cog wheel that drives the cartridge. It would be a lot easier for the user to provide a simple dedicated cover.

As per other comments the plastic gears are not fit for purpose. My parents have this mower and have replaced this component 5 or 6 times before eventually giving up and buying a rotary mower. Is there any possibility of retrofitting steel gears?

Can the bed knife/ bottom blade be sharpened on these mowers be sharpened or does it need to be replaced
@cmorris64486 жыл бұрын
The knob for fixing the handlebars should be on the other side (so it won't restrict access the bottom cable-tidy). Also, before inserting the two screws into the grass box (to attach the grass compressor) the black plastic tophat bushes should be placed on the screws (with large side next to screw head). By the way, the Allett lawnmower is expensive and it is 'disappointing' the grass compactor doesn't come pre-assembled in the grass box.

Question: Why does a lawn mower costing over a £1,000 have PLASTIC gear wheels?..
@seeul8rwaynekerr9 жыл бұрын
Chocolate fireguard anybody? ??? Seriously the engineers who put great in Great Britain are turning in their bloody graves! Whilst qualcast/atco/allett are laughing at you gullible fools who bought their latest flimsy contraption! Buy an earlier one from when men were men sheep were nervous and when we had an empire. You'll have far more fun doing it up than dealing with this exercise in blatant carpet baggery writ large.
@cloversmate9 жыл бұрын
***** Good question. The fact is that this is British design - some 20 years old - by Qualcast/Atco that has stood the test of time. I have run these mowers for some 15 years -mowing on a weekly basis on a residential lawn, and the mechanism has proved to be reasonably solid and robust. If there is a weakness on this mower mechanism, it is ironically the METAL mounting plate for the gear mech being a bit thin and flimsy. Provided the plate is true, the gears seem to last for ages - I've never had to change a plastic gear. Best not to judge a book by its cover - look at the size and design of the components before commenting. For a domestic mower, I think its a clever (and old) design - especially the QuickChange cassette. Copies the cassette concept of the pro level mowers at a fraction of the price. Pity Qualcast/Atco sold out to the Germans/Italians IMO, and that GB lost a good reputable mower manufacturer.

I made the comment about the gear wheel because clearly someone felt the need to make a video about what appears to be a week point in the design of this lawnmower, I'd also read about people having to replace the said gear wheels. In this day and age of making things ever cheaper (mechanically) I just think to pay over a £1,000 and end up with plastic gear wheels is a bit cheap. I have an old Suffolk Punch which is all metal with all the original parts and is still going strong, will the same be able to be said about this mower in thirty years time, I doubt it.

How come electric starters are not available on these lawnmowers like the Atco predecessors?
@TurfmechAndAllett12 жыл бұрын
Yes, they are the same machine. For information, the drawings, manufacturing plant, tooling and intellectual property rights for the entire range of former Atco and Suffolk Punch petrol and electric lawn mowers were acquired from Bosch Lawn and Garden Ltd in May 2011 by Allett Mowers' parent company, Turfmech Machinery Ltd. A comprehensive range of domestic and professional cylinder mowers is now being manufactured by the firm under the Allett brand name in Staffordshire, England.
