Hey dude, I have another video idea for you. How about a guide on semi-chaff or advanced chaff? Stuff like mass produced sledgies, mechanical division steel balls, shielded wasps etc. Just won a game with armored sledgies nulifying the enemy Vulcan, Typhoon AND mustangs. Felt smart about it. I'm sure there are other scenarios where we might want more "chaff" that is neither fangs nor crawlers.

So there I was at 850mmr slowly building a board up. She had been using missiles and spells throughout the game while I had been building up a board with chaff, enough clear for the little she laid down, and a generally balanced board ready to quickly clear her sledges. Naturally I had lost 4 straight turns , having been whittled down. A swingy lvl 3 wraith drop and it turns out mustangs I had down didn't do much. I responded with marksmen and learned that 3 lvl 1 marksmen don't do much to 2 wraiths as I'm down to 160 hp having cleared everything, but the wraiths. Learning a marksmen counter will never work, I turn 7 loan with ranged melters and wipe the floor with my better board over the next several turns. Great beginner tips!

Elite wasp openers can be really strong, but you need the extra +100 from selling a $200 unit.
@Fadeways4 күн бұрын
He seems to do a lot of jump drive wasp openers as elite spec, it seems to be a way to not get totally outmaneuvered despite the low deployment count of elite
@SurreyEZ4 күн бұрын
not anything to do with sledges being bad. With the elite I find you can miss a lot of deployments and still be good. With more money you can do different plays the enemy doesn't expect since you can put huge pressure on certain position with the elite recruitment

Hacker feels like the hardest counter to some existing strats. And once someone goes hacker into Rhino, now they have a hacker lead over you if try to go hacker yourself. I like this change, since unit drop hackers have compounded the issue.
@JPEight5 күн бұрын
I think if they made hacker apply a debuff to the unit could be a good shift. Perhaps gradually applying more and more debuff as the hack progresses, and stunning on completion. That way it would be pushed back into a purely support role, and would feel less cheap/frustraiting whilst still being a good counter in most of the same situations.

As a player in the Dallas area i would have LOVED to be able to go and take a shot at the tourney, sad... As for the hacker, a high level hacker late in the game is very feels bad... otherwise i agree that hackers weren't really a problem.

could you please explain why in game 2 first round you go Arcs, isn't it kinda the same role as mustangs and you want somethign against Balls and Arcs die to Balls, maybe I am missing something crucial here
@SurreyEZ5 күн бұрын
Mustang is a bit of a bad unit right now. So i almost treat them as fangs that have higher movement speed at the beginning, so not a reliably unit to clear crawlers with. You can go 2 crawlers also but i dont like it because of fire badger unit drop, you can go 2 snipers also since he has balls and is probably building arcs and with you you probably have the best round 1 but i think marksman is a bad unit. Going 2 fang is probably the most flexible choice round one. I took a little bit of a risk since he's speed spec and would probably deploy aggressively. I think the arcs are pretty good vs aggressive ball+crawler starts since they usually want to level their crawlers. So when you go charged shot it counters lev2 crawlers + steel balls and you dont need to tech range since you connect at the start

too much money if you havent committed into another giant earlier in the game
@leozaboudi80056 күн бұрын
Oh, I get what you are saying : techless war factory is better than 1 tech giant on average from a nothing board. Thanks for the insight!
@SurreyEZ5 күн бұрын
@@leozaboudi8005 Yea if you go into a giant earlier its like 700 supplies to unlock it, build one and build one chaff. So you can do it early in the game. Then they add up slowly and when you have like 4 of them its very cost efficient to build more techs for them and build more of them. When it's late game with unit round and you have like 2000 money after a sell, you cant build like 2 arclights and a crawler for 300. So the question becomes do you go 3 forts with barriers or slam down 2 factories? and the factory is always better
@marinauder6 күн бұрын

I love hackers but I think removing them from free drops was a good move. No other unit in the game can be so disruptive to the board state as a hacker (not on every board obviously). I think free hackers are a great tool for experienced players but are probably really horrible experience for people who don't know how to deal with them.

The biggest hurdle for Mechabellum is that its gameplay loop is very concise and is very, very skill oriented so free to play doesn't have the same appeal that it might for other more generic titles. Mechabellum is in a weird niche in a similar camp as TFT or Auto chess in general which are free to play but are housed in a wholly different product, it's almost the most analogous to Desert Strike which is also housed in a different game. But those games are not really as competitive and allow weaker players to win with nut rolls or random mechanic hits which gives it an element of gambling, in fact the more "competitive" the TFT set -- IE the more skill driven, the less popular it has proven to be. I would have serious doubts about a F2P swap massively increasing the player base, mostly because the current gaming landscape would suggest raw 100% skill driven games are in decline in general, and there are just not enough hooks in Mechabellum to keep non-enthusiasts interested. The gameplay is so very highly concentrated that its very unlikely to grow that much bigger it lacks a lot of dimensions to keep an average player invested. No hero units or characters, no Factions or overall story architecture etc. Magic the Gathering did a big exploration on who their players were more than 20 years ago and constructed a lot of psychological profiles and tried to cater elements of their game to each those player types, Mechabellum has almost done the opposite its stripped down so many components of a traditional game as to be left with this singular "optimize oriented" competitive game. At some point the real issue for these enthusiast driven titles is far more about retention than it is about growth, and we might already be at that point.

It feels strange to me that they are no longer doing F2P. This type of game where you need a threshold of players in the player base for it to feel good really benefits from the F2P model. I guess they just couldn't come up with a monetization model they felt they could pull off. Sad to see.

Hey man, it's me again. Excelent content as usual. Nice to hear your thoughts on the hacker, I think this is a clear case of removing something because it's annoying rather than because it's too strong. Anyway, I'm still waiting on your guide on levelling/Elite spec. Here's my current levelling strat: - Always level to lvl 2 since double stats is good - Always level marksmen, arcs and stangs. Phoenix if possible - only level chaff if there's leftover money - don't level Scorpions since they can still one-shot everything I want them to even at lvl 1 - level sledges for early game power and later sell them. Same with storms if they get countered super hard - don't recruit lvl 1 marksmen unless it's very early into the game. I had marksmen get perma-stuck on 1 and that is usually a lost game Surely you could provide much better guidelines in a cool video. =D

The problem wasn’t hackers, the problem was a free tier 4/5/6 hacker in late rounds. And if you didn’t already have the counter, or the match was close, you are now behind your opponent for at least two rounds. I think it’s just too much of a power swing to get in a card. I ended up just always taking the high level hacker if it showed up because I know my opponent will. And that’s just boring gameplay and takes the chess feel away.
