I heard Josh on the podcast "A Hotdog is a Sandwich" talk about this. I'm not a fan of wines, but happened to have some red wine for cooking around and tried it. It sounded horrible, but I actually really love the flavor. I may have to start buying red wine a little more

I need to try this for sure! Off topic, have you ever heard of salty licorice liquor? Here in my country we have "salmari" liquor made from salmiakki, salmiakki is a salty candy. Ive never tried the liquor yet but it sounds ao interesting

I was on the USS Forrestal in 1986 and that deployment was awesome. We departed Jacksonville on June 2nd and hit Naples 20 days later. Spend 5 days in Naples then sailed for about 20 days the. Hit Palma de Mallorca for 14 days! Sailed for about 10 days and hit Palermo Sicily for a week. Sailed for 10 days then hit Cannes France for 10 days. Sailed for 15 days then hit Naples again for a week. Sailed for a few days then hit Livorno Italy for five days. Sailed for two weeks hit Palma on the way out of the Med and was back home November 11. The reason why we were not hazy gray and underway for six months was that the sixth fleet blew through their operating budget messing around with Libya the prior quarter and there was no money to keep us at sea! Great times on that cruise

In Australia we drink Port Wine and Coke it’s not bad. It’s a very cheap way of getting from A to B. I like Pepsi max the best

I do this with pretty decent red wines and its great. Its like cherry coke. I don't like wine that much by itself.

Tasted better when you cook with it

According to my friends from Chile, it’s best with whatever cheap wine you can get. I can confirm as well, $3 Aldi wine goes great in some Coca Cola. It’s very much a college beverage but the point is to make your cheap booze palatable. Her usual choice is cheap Cabernet, when I try that it’s almost like a fruitier version of the vanilla flavored Coke they used to make.

The Spanish invented this drink to be refreshing and lower in alcohol, one to drink throughout the day, I prefer drinking this to red wine

I had it when I went to San Sebastian. I asked the bartender what the typical drink is in the area, and he told me Kalimotxo. I thought it sounded so exotic so of course I ordered it. I absolutely loved it. It's not meant to be mixed with good wine (and don't even think about an excellent vintage). It's to help salvage meh wine that you can't bear throwing away.

some combination sound disgusting but somehow pretty good, i once mix milk with fish sauce when i was 10, taste like liquified cheese ngl, also i mixed honey with salt and other stuff (i don’t say this is a good combination and can upset your stomach if you have a bad one)

i always hit mine with a barspoon of simple and dash or two of ango, plus a generous squeeze of lemon to round everything out. makes a world of difference; really elevates it from a highball to a proper cocktail without betraying the kalimotxo as an ostensible dive/cafe drink. if i'm going nuts, i'll spike it with some zucca, but that's pretty rare.

For Vella to go bad that means it had to be good at some point

Wtf is the point if you serve the white and just the white cold? More of a blind temperature feeling than a tasting. Different temperatures would also make the wine smell and taste completely different.
