How long to load a whole autorack?
@scottthewaterwarrior
@scottthewaterwarrior Жыл бұрын
Ah, so the railcars are connected together with ramps to load/unload multiple railcars at once. I figured that was probably how it was done, but other videos I saw only showed the railcar at the end. I assume the smaller ramps that bridge the gap from car to car are integrated into the traincars themselves?
@Noneed1111
@Noneed1111 Жыл бұрын
So basically the cars are connected with what are called “plates”, these are metal slabs that are locked in to place on each level before or after the level is done by the loaders. This makes this extremely dangerous. When watching the clip of multiple cars coming through and they go up a little in the air, that’s the plate moving/shifting/lifting/etc.

healing up after breaking my ankle off Jefferson in Detroit. Chrysler plant. This job is so incredibly dangerous, These guys deserve $50 an hour and a more sane system to climb onto rail cars on the upper level. As well as a better way to go from one car to the next without having to fall, catch and pull yourself up. I was pushed into the 10th hour too early in my training due to the pandemic, not the company. We signed on to load ALL the cars. The entire system is just out of date.

Many years back I got a 'Switch List' and was told to switch our Automotive facility. What the clerks forgot to note was that one of the loaded tracks the vehicles had not yet been chained down yet. Yes, you are correct. They came out the far end of the track when I pulled. Fortunately with all the ruptured gasoline tanks there wasn't an immediate fire. Our 'Clerk' Jobs have now been contracted out and I'm retired after 37 years. It's YOUR HEADACHE NOW !

@@grimmvargo You Nailed It! Thankfully I wasn't accused of any wrong doing(blame shifting on the New Guy). But was wrongfully accused of other accusations. By the 'Grace of God' I got out of there after 37 years and the BNSF RWY Vice President flew into Los Angeles to host my Suprise retirement party. At his presentation he said when he researched my disciplin record he couldn't find anything and thought the computer was wrong. But it was correct so that's why he was so interested in me. Other guys weren't so lucky and fell victim to malicious disciplin to make the supervisor 'Look Good'. Other's were injured or killed. Thanks again for replying to my post ! Wes Surf City, Calif †

My grandfather tells stories of how guys would break into the autocarriers as the train was moving amd strip the vehicles of parts like transmissions and tires and stuff, and than toss them off at designated areas. They could go car to car and steal thousands of dollars worth of parts.
