Ah, so the railcars are connected together with ramps to load/unload multiple railcars at once. I figured that was probably how it was done, but other videos I saw only showed the railcar at the end. I assume the smaller ramps that bridge the gap from car to car are integrated into the traincars themselves?
@Noneed1111 Жыл бұрын
So basically the cars are connected with what are called “plates”, these are metal slabs that are locked in to place on each level before or after the level is done by the loaders. This makes this extremely dangerous. When watching the clip of multiple cars coming through and they go up a little in the air, that’s the plate moving/shifting/lifting/etc.

@ShdeX3 жыл бұрын
They probably didn't film it, they normally use Grate-lock chocks, holdems, or stay-puts as we call them, they go on either side of the tires. Depending on where they get cars from like ford, toyota, nissan, they have different preferences on how they like their cars chocked.

@@ShdeX Is it a job worth doing ? I just retired and am looking for a different kind of job that I could do for a short time here in Toledo. I am pretty fit and mechanically minded .
@ShdeX3 жыл бұрын
@@bgsu5052 if you can find a position open, It's definitely worth it. Most of them are within the Union, so it's got great benefits. It gets a little tedious at times, chocking is the hardest part of the job. Bending over, placing it behind each tire in whatever pattern is standard for the rail company and the dealer protocols. But getting past the chocking, it's all unit based, like for us we have to move 6.25 units(vehicles) per hour. So an 8 hour shift for one person is 50 units. For a 3-4 man crew it'd be 150-200 units per 8 hour shift. We normally get that done within 4-5 hours, lol. We chill out in the break room, get lunch, etc. We are done. Some companies will still hold you till the end of the shift, but you can pretty much do whatever, some let you leave as soon as you finish. I live right beside mine, so I just leave for "lunch" and come back 4 hours later to clock out. But the cool thing is. You finish 4 hours early, you still get paid for 8 hours. It is a fixed amount each day, they'll tell you "hey, it's a 9 hour day". We get done within 5 hours. We still get 9 no matter what. That's the big thing I enjoy the most. Some of the best insurances you can get. And if you have high seniority, you can just volunteer out everyday. I have like 20 guys above me, but I never see them much becuase they just choose not to work. But hey that's more work that makes it to me.

General Motors Plant at the junction of highways 640 and 15 in Boisbriand, Quebec had such these , for their cars coming right-off the assembly line during the 70's , 80's and late 90's , before they closed shop forever in 2001 , leaving 1200 unionized technicians on welfare in a blink of the eye and turning the vaste industrial site into a commercial Shopping Mall with 400 stores in 2006 , after 3 full years of demolition and grounds decontamination
