You can die from alcohol withdrawal. if you have a really bad habit, get medical attention and don't try to do it on your own.

Cage absolutely nailed this role. I fell in love with this film when it came out nearly 30 years ago. It’s beautiful. It’s sad. It’s funny. It’s tragic. And just fucking epic.
@kc1john6 ай бұрын
He literally met with late stage alcoholics to nail the role. Well deserved Oscar for this. Anyone who says Cage is a bad actor, I point to this. He just made some bad financial choices and took every role that came his way.

I used to work for AMC Theatres from 1990-1997. When this movie premiered it was a full house. I had watched it the day prior and fell in love with their performances. Two imperfect people with flaws and she is the saving angel that wants to save his life from destruction...

One of the most sad, unforgettable movies I've seen. Elizabeth Shue on the street with glittering Vegas strip in the background looked so vulnerable.

This movie isn't about alcohol, love, or any other silly tropes. It's about a dude who's fed up with his existential circumstances and decides to take the reigns, even if (or particularly if) that denies him existence itself. It is the ultimate story of self liberation.

One of my very favourite films. Nic Cage rightly won an Oscar but Liz Shue matched him slug for slug in this great film and deserved an Oscar as well.

This movie is not about alcoholism. Its about unconditional love. Ben could have been any other self-destructive character, like a heroin junkie, or an AIDS patient. The point is, he was clearly on a downward spiral and still found someone who loved him despite of his imperfections. He was accepted for all the good and the bad that came with him. And that is what makes unconditional love tough.
