This is a masterpiece that exceeds earlier travel videos, even when the venue isn't nearly as spectacular as some and was hampered by rain. You're a highly entertaining and informative host. I looked up two unfamiliar words that came up and learned two new things: "muesli" (which you ate) and "TAB" (which was repeatedly on signs). Not only the plunge but the long swim was a surprise. I don't even like to be in air that cold, much less water.
@YotopianWanderer6 күн бұрын
Thanks Mike! Even though it's not my main focus, I continue to thoroughly enjoy the content creation process. Until recently I did not know what "TAB" meant either, given I have never gambled, nor do I have any interest in doing so. Loved the swim 🥶

I compliment you on each of your adventure videos and appreciate them, and the amount of effort that you put into this one is evident. I hope that missing your turn in Dubbo has convinced you of the value of GPS, even when you think that you know where you're going. It can save a lot of trouble, which is what it's for. I didn't get the reference about the shower head.
@YotopianWanderer10 күн бұрын
GPS is definitely a valuable tool, although it can be fun and interesting to try and navigate without relying on it. Lucky I realized my wrong turn early enough and it only ended up adding another 45 mins to an hour to the drive. Not expecting many if anyone to get the shower head reference 😂 Its an inside joke from one of my favourite channels on KZbin. Will have to leave it a mystery for another day
@MikeV865210 күн бұрын
@@YotopianWanderer When you said that you'd gone the wrong way, I paused the video and looked at Google Maps. I knew that you'd just been in Dubbo, so the geographer in me tried to figure out which way you'd gone wrong and which route you'd take to get back on course. When you later showed the map, I was precisely correct. All right about the shower head.

It was 109° F. (43 °C) here all afternoon until six p.m. It's now 100° F. (38 °C) at nine p.m. I once had a folding rooftop tent with an aluminum floor that could get cold. I bought a cheap rolled-up dense-foam yoga mat, trimmed it to fit the fold, and glued it permanently in place. That solved the problem nicely. Have a great trip.

There is far too much beautiful mountain country in Australia that is privately owned. And pasture full of cattle may look nice, but is essentially ecologically sterile land. Too much magnificent forested mountain plateau country in south-east Qld and northern NSW has been cleared for livestock grazing... I wish I could have seen it in its former glory before European settlement.

I have similar thoughts. Would be great to be able to go back in time and see what the land would have looked like in its pristine natural state

@@YotopianWanderer It'll be interesting to see how they react if/when you go back occasionally to fill in. Cattle are not stupid, just slow to think; so it might take a minute for it to register with them that it's you. They're also forgetful, so they might not remember you if it's been too long. Let them hear your voice. They seem to have a better memory for sounds.

Right of passage should be a given, and I dare to think positive and believe that people that do go out into nature like you, tend to do the right thing and leave the place just like they found it, and would litter or destroy anything. But in your case the best is to connect with owner and ask permission to pass through. Loved your videos along this stretch of the rabbit proof fence

Absolutely love doing hikes and camps down in that scenic rim/adjacent areas. I really resonated with what you said about realising how many amazing places there are to explore in our own backyard; Also the whole philosophy around not needing to run far away to fulfil a desire to explore. I live only ~3 hours from the QLD/NSW border area and I also only had that same realisation recently. With all that being said, if you've got any solid mountain summit hike recommendations, I would love to hear them!
@YotopianWanderer2 ай бұрын
Love to hear it! Definitely some profound philosophical realization to be had which I find often only happens when I'm out in nature, able to detach from day to day life even if for a short while. Regarding summit hikes I haven't done all too many. A good recommendation is Mt Mitchell at Cunningham's Gap which I did a video on a while back (although I think it might be closed right now due to the roadworks at the gap). Bald Rock Summit hike near Tenterfield, NSW as well as the Pyramid at Girraween National Park are climbs I enjoyed more recently. For the future would like to have a crack at Wilson's Peak and Mt Superbus, plus lots more in the Scenic Rim which I've barely touched. Always so much more to explore!
@bv21702 ай бұрын
@@YotopianWanderer Yeah I find the older I am getting, the more I am starting to really appreciate these opportunities to detach from the '''world''' and simply just exist and be present and to explore all of these amazing places. (Although I'm only mid 20's, hardly old yet!). I camped south of Tenterfield a few weeks ago actually, and drove past Bald Rock on the way down! I thought it looked like it would be a pretty fun walk. Wilson's Peak looks very appealing to me! That'll be my next hike now, thanks for mentioning it :) If like me you enjoy a good rock scramble, I recently climbled Mount Maroon (~20minutes west from Rathdowney), and that was a fantastic walk.
@YotopianWanderer2 ай бұрын
That makes two of us! I'm only 23 haha. I imagine as time goes on the call of the wild to continue exploring places away from the hustle and chaos of modern society will only intensify. I grew up on the Gold Coast so did many hikes in and around the Hinterland, plus around the Southerns Downs/Granite Belt where I live now. Mostly overlooked the Scenic Rim, lots of hidden gems there it seems. Mount Maroon and Mount Barney are definitely also on my list also!

I was following you on Google Maps' sat pics. The gate that you found is quite a way south of Trough Creek Road, which would come out at the campground, but you should be able to walk in on Acacia Plateau Road from its endpoint of vehicular accessibility in NSW, then all the way through. Before hiking in an area without cellular service, you might save screenshots of pertinent maps and sat pics onto your phone or print them on paper.
@YotopianWanderer2 ай бұрын
Yes that's a good ideas to save screenshots. I also downloaded offline maps which should make it easier to navigate. Next time will definitely drive up Acacia Plateau Road as far as I can and hike the rest of the way to find Trough Creek Road

Thank you for this! I grew up in a very rural and wooded part of another state, and my family owned slightly over 100 acres (40 hectares) of land, mostly in woods like that, but with larger trees. I can relate to much of what you've shown here. It's good when development allows streamside zones to remain in their original state for the sake of wildlife and human connection with nature.
@YotopianWanderer2 ай бұрын
Absolutely! That's wonderful to hear. I'm immensely grateful to have grown up with access to nature like this. There's something about forests in particular that feels very peaceful and tranquil. This region originally had a large timber industry. There's actually one mill still operating just a few hundred metres from where I started the video, so much of the woodland in these green spaces was reforested after European settlement, hence the smaller trees compared to other parts of the Gold Coast hinterland that were left untouched
