Beautiful as always. How deep did you have to dive to see the field of sand dollars?
@sdscubaart3 ай бұрын
Thanks! The sand dollar fields are in fairly shallow water. Approximately 20-30ft deep. There are some beautiful dense fields of young sand dollars out there right now.

Nothing like diving the channel islands. Great clarity. I grew up looking at the little hump in the middle of the Pacific, when I was young. That's about all I miss from So Cal., but there's something special about diving in So Cal., that you won't find anywhere else in the world!

I was out there on the 7th too!! Were the tuna crabs still hanging at 60-80 ft? One of these days we should coordinate a LJ launch/dive and actually say hello.

The tuna crabs were scattered everywhere but still mainly 60-80ft. I've heard they are starting to recede.

PHENOMENAL VIDEO! I truly enjoyed this. May I ask what kind of cam and lights you use? I'm going out on Monday and hoping for half of the critters you've seen. :)
@sdscubaart Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I use a GoPro with a flip macromate +15 macro lens on a single flex arm tray and a BigBlue 3800 lumen video light. Lighting is key. I recommend any video light that's at least 3000 lumens. Many people use dual arm trays with two lights. Hope you see a lot of cool stuff.

@sdscubaart Жыл бұрын
Yeah, they were swarming in areas. I’ve been told they are mysid shrimp. The lace like covered critter is a crab (hemphill’s kelp crab, I believe).

Water clarity was great! I was paddling the kayak along North County coastline yesterday and it was like an aquarium. If you're looking for a different dive spot, a big kelp patty has developed straight out from Beacons. Easily reached from shore. There were 3 kids skin diving around the edges and they spotted a lot of activity.
