Very nice rendition, sir. I don't think you're touched...the break works nicely, IMO. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you Mr. Maxwell for clearly showing the fingering of your wonderful instrumental pieces. They are as much learnng pieces as listening pieces. They are a study of ideas, and anyone inclined to and with the wherewithal to, can work on these ideas or whole songs if so they choose. Inspiring!

Anyone have the tablature for this wonderful tune. I’m not advanced enough to be able to tab the song based on the video.
@johngreyhoundmaxwell74328 ай бұрын
No tab but it’s in open D. Glad you like it!

Thank you for your reply. So how did you learn the tune? I a bit more than a beginner, but not yet able to learn from a video.
@johngreyhoundmaxwell74328 ай бұрын
Well, I learned it by ear and part of the arrangement is mine. I suggest playing a lot in open D and searching for what notes and chords feel right to you. It takes time and experimentation but it will come with time!

Love this song. Real fine mandolin slide, cord structure, single notes & smooth vocals. John, i'm gona break out my gibson1916 a-4 & apply a slide. Tks for a great performance & inspiration thru a new door.

John, profound truth, delivered in rockin blues, slide cording & single note rhythm's. Images of soot covered miners, steel mill heat, low pay, drinking together & talkin better days coming. Feet tapping to much needed up beat tempo and a fiddle player jumps in. Thank you for a fine version.

what is the song's history?
@johngreyhoundmaxwell7432 Жыл бұрын
@@jalex7689 It's an old railroad work song. The first known recorded version was 1933 from a Tennessee prison. I first heard Ry Cooder's version on Paradise and Lunch.
