I am sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is awful. I heard you say you are an animal lover, but you seem ok with your cat killing all kinds of birds, squirrels & mice. Some of those animals may have babies. If the mom doesn't come home, those babies will starve to death. Or be eaten also. Please feed your cats wet food as well as dry. They don't need to hunt if they aren't hungry. Discourage the hunting. Or keep them in. I truly do understand wanting your cat to experience the outdoors but they really take a toll on the eco system. All animals deserve to live & raise families.
