I appreciate the special effects and effort you put into this! I would suggest not bothering with the filter--the grey "light" at the top center was a little distracting, and it seemed like the models' detail got washed out a lot. Definitely keep the explosions though :)

The other way to make patterns/texture is to score in with a knife and then heat with a hair dryer. The cuts are so small they are barely visible but the heat will cause them to open up.

Was legit about to comment this same thing. Take a look at people like Punished Props, or SKS Props for examples of detailing EVA foam, cosplayers use this technique ALL the time to do things like paneling in armor and such. SKS even has a line of eva foam that's pretty high quality and sold through Blick Art Supplies. Also soldering irons for electronics or wood burning knives get hot enough to do clean carving in EVA

I love the energy of the things you make. Personally when I make trees I let nature do most of the work for me, and simply collect interesting roots or tree clippings I come across and make trees from them. I bake then in a root mass made of Sculpey for a heavier base and foliate with lichen from dollar tree. But I really enjoy the character of these trees. Have you considered adding faces from cheap dolls to the trunks? You could sprout up some nightmare fuel from that. Always pumped to see new content from you man.

couple of notes from my own forays into oil washes: * it's recommended to add an initial clear varnish with matte/gloss medium over the mini before applying the oil washes. In both cases, this will help protect the underlying acrylics from the mineral spirits. In the case of gloss medium, it will also help with the flow on the oil wash. * I've had very good luck just immediately removing the excess oil paint, right after applying, usually with the same (cleaned in spirits) brush I used to put it on. This also lets you push & move around the paint in the crevices to a selective degree

I've never needed to varnish before oils, white spirit doesn't react with acrylic paint so if its coming off its cuz you're rubbing it to hard

Very nice. When you first started wiping down the ogre, I thought "That looks like a Frazetta painting." Thanks for going over the techniques like this. You answered one of my questions about this before. I think I'm ready to take the plunge with oil washes.

Very nice, I've been looking forward to these. I was kind of hoping they'd be more real-time with you facing an opponent. That, however, can run long. The models are beautiful and OPR regiments looks fun to play. Thanks for sharing with us. Can't wait to see a battle report from that Mordheim board.

Hi, what is actually this comic in the beginning? Is this a comic set in Mordheim? Great video btw, love the glory shots and the music :) I do think it is a bit rough at some parts tough. I think I would have made the stairs more into a real stairs with small flat inbetweens where the models could stand. But that is maybe a matter of tast. Cool idea. Walkways are great!

Its sweet irony that the ultimate form of CGI, digitally conceived physical manifestations, can be painted and utilized in scenes that revive memories of some of my favorite old movies with beautiful practical effects and lighting. I still say your bean footage would be amazing with a Tangerine Dream soundtrack.

I need to start using the oil washes. You mention adding highlights after the oil wash, but we only see you highlight the warpstone on the base, which did not seem to get the oil wash. Are you able to highlight the washed areas after it is thoroughly dry?
@legendarytabletop
@legendarytabletop 7 ай бұрын
Yes- just leave the oil paint overnight so it can set and then after that you can highlight all you want- sometimes varnish can speed up the process as well in between to seal the oil

There is a literal role in both the comicbook/manga industry and animation industry called the "Colorist" whose entire profession is either making the lineart as vivid or efficiently colored as possible. Art is the expression of the self, and though there may not seem to be "purpose" in painting minis, i personally believe that the purpose is simply "the expression of the self". You took the time to study, practice and the apply your skills unto a three dimensional canavas (which i might add, is way harder than on paper or digital interfaces apa Krita/Photoshop) and that has to count for something. Long story short, its art. Even making/ designing the miniatures to be put in molds or for 3d printing itself is also an art; back then they did that at a much larger scale in marble, so why should this be any different?
@johnbarnett921
@johnbarnett921 10 ай бұрын
I will always argue that painting miniatures IS art. If you create terrain, you are most definitely an artist. I don't generally refer to myself as an artist because it can sound pretentious, but we are artists for sure.
