Interesting story behind the creation of the anime. I really like the art style and some of the messages that the story is trying to convey. The music is absolutely wonderful and partially inspired me to learn piano and I appreciate the hard work that was put into the show (including the intros and outros). But on the other hand, I found it really hard to fully get into it, because for me there are some awkward or uncomfortable moments and elements to the show that would prevent me from sharing it with others.

my only gripe about this show was that the necks for almost all the characters were too long, to the point where it was distracting. just like, make them two or three centimeters shorter and it'd have been perfect

3D studio is almost the oldest 3D software out there. Been around for a long time. Older than Maya, older than lightwave, blender, Maya, Zbrush and others.

@ 4:20 - Quick correction! I'm a professional 2D animator, and the pipeline in terms of audio recording for 2D and 3D is the same. All animators typically collect their audio before animating, that way we can correctly time our movements and lip sync to our soundtrack.

hey i started 3d on 3dsmax, and yes if you aim to render 2d it will run very smoothly on a decent machine, any machine of the era it was made!

One con that Beastars has: Everyone has Human-like heights. (Which is comprehensible when you get to know the way they did the animations) but that makes it look...odd? Besides, the desings of the muzzles are quite off to me. Don't get me wrong, I would F**k Legosi, but there are some flaws in that anime style.

This is the most 2D looking fully CG show ever, it baffles me how they got looking so 2D when most toon shaders for CG program are crap. So I didn't know their animation technique and how some of the shadows were drawn in.

If you have characters moving on 2's but the background is moving on 1's you get chatter because the character would be moving back and forth on the screen. The two solutions are: animate the character at the same rate as the camera movement, OR continue the character's forward motion on every frame even if the character's pose doesn't advance, to prevent its arcs of motion turning into zig-zags caused by the camera movement. Yeah it makes sense to choose the latter option because you want the way the character moves to stay consistent.

Interesting video, thanks. Buuuuut... do you know what toon shader/ renderer they used for Beastars? It doesn't look like the standard ink/paint that comes with MAX as that's a bit crap. Could it be FinalToon? I've used that in the past but I also know Arnold renderer has a pretty decent toon shader, but takes longer to render.
