Great little film. I lived in Great Yarmouth from 1956 to 1964, then moved to Ontario Canada. I learnt to swim in that pool. A group of us joined a swimming club , I think it was called the “Penguin Club”. Even the name brings a smile back to my face. Yes good times. Thank you.

I remember going swimming there with the priory school in the sixties, mrs brett I believe was the instructor. it would be march april time before the season started, and the poor kids would be blue with cold. that's one part of the old days I wont miss.

Sorry to bother you, I just found your video. I am currently working on a website about the history of coin operated rides (www.coinoperatedrides.weebly.com) and wondered if you would mind me using a tiny clip of your cine film (the shot at 02:16, showing the snail ride at Joyland) on the website? I would give full credit to you and a link back to your KZbin account, of course. No worries if not, I'm just always on the lookout for old videos that show these rare amusement machines and thought there was no harm in asking. Many thanks! Show less

Skylark24 Hi there. Of course you can use whatever part of the film you need to. I don't know much of the history of the original footage but if there is something you can use then please feel free to :)

Thank you. It's brilliant footage and amazing that you picked it up in a collectors shop! I always wonder where the people in these videos/their relatives are now and why they no longer want these lovely old holiday films. Sad really. (But great for those of us who love this kind of thing and might have never seen it otherwise!)

Never thought I'd ever see that again. I remember Yarmouth pool so well. Outdoor, unheated and salt water too boot. If I remember rightly the diver in the black was called Morris and always seemed to carry a camera with him. I always marvelled at the things he did as a ten year old in 1968. I'm now 58. We used to buy a season ticket for the pool as it worked out so much cheaper as we used the pool all the time. It was 12 shillings and sixpence (62.5p) for a whole summer of fun. I remember peering through the glass door during the winter months looking at the empty pool (it was only open in the summer) longing for the time to come when we could get back to swimming. I still have memories of it being demolished and the site being made ready for the Marina Centre. So sad to see it go. Thanks for posting this up. Great memories.

Thanks for sharing your memories. I bought these old 8mm movies from a second hand shop in Holt, I then purchased a projector online so i could watch these back. It was great to see what was on these old films, especially as they were of the local area. I have no knowledge of the people in the films and wanted to upload them so others would have the chance to reminisce and see if anyone would be able to identify or recognise anyone :) Glad youve enjoyed watching it.

Thanks for the video I so remember the 60's in Gt. Yarmouth with happy memories. My young sister practically spent her summer holidays at the pool, such a shame they demolished it.

Hi Kathy, my mom would have been 20 in 1960, she was raised in Great Yarmouth. Any chance you knew her, Marjorie Hunt, she had a younger brother, Gordon. My grandparents owned a small hotel on the beachfront.

Hi Photon, I know you like chaos and mayhem along with bangs and smoke but can we do I little scientific research as well? There’s a new engine for outer space developed by Robert Shawyer, called the EmDrive. He’s on YoutTube. All it is, is a magnetron from a microwave. ‘… it shouldn’t produce thrust’, but by all accounts it does, according to NASA and the Chinese space agency. Any chance of testing one or two or three, to find out? You can always punish them if they don’t. ps, it should be "1 Big Boy' s..."
