New to all this, have an EOS 760D / 18-200 lens / Celestron 5SE, my goal is to take clear images of the planets thru the telescope , any optimized setting for the DSLR will be greatly appreciated

I found using a small articulated inspection mirror you can look down the tube and see the center spot without having to remove anything. I bought an old AT6RC at an astro flea market that the guy gave up on calibrating. It didn't have a center spot on the secondary. To create my own was a real challenge, I couldn't make a donut so I had to end up with a single white spot.

Thanks Allen, even though this is an old video I just got a CGEM EdgeHD8 and tried this to help with polar alignment. Smooth as butter now.

What's the easiest way to preset the lens to infinity? Some lenses seem to go past the infinity mark when turning the focusing ring to the end stop.

Widest or almost widest F stop, then focus to the sharpest you can.

This is a great video. My confusion comes when to tell if it's the secondary or primary mirror that needs to be further collimated. are there any tell-tale signs to determine if the broken lines are associated with the primary or secondary mirror?

Nice, I did not understand half and I did not get how to set the dlsr. I have a cheep d3400 and settings are dofferent and I really thought I can play arround and not have to spend days Watching videos and get nothing, not one video shows how to set it, this man had small number of settings but did not say Where is it on his camera AT least. Answering one of your questions: I use a Sigma zoom lens kit 17-55mm f/2.8. This maximum apperture goes throghout from minimum to maximum focal length. My camera that goes with this lens kit is a Nikon D7200. I also have a mirrorles Canon M50. For this camera, I have interesting lenses. Two manual focus TtArtisan lenses, 50mm f/1.2 and another is a 35mm f/1.4. This camera has a feature that makes it much easier to obtain optimal focus using its LCD display. The other lens I have is a Sigma EOS 105mm f/2.8. I have to use an adaptor for this one. Unfortunately, the one I've got stopped working. I intend to buy a Canon adaptor, otherwise the only compatible camera I have for this lens is an analog Canon.

Unfortunately, with a 6 inch RC you can't just reach in and unscrew the end of the baffle. It won't fit. This method only works on 8 inches or more. With the 6 inch RC, you must remove the mirror cell in order to remove the end of the baffle. Either that, or find a way to insert a telescopic and tiltable mirror in the front end in order to see the center donut.

The music is from @DeepSkyDude on spotify. I created a play list called Deep Sky Tunes which has all of the currently released music. I left this information in the graphic of the video. is it not obvious to see? I may need to adjust it.

@@I_Spaced_OutActually, I was watching the sun and enjoying the music enough that I didn't even notice the text box. It was pretty late at night, and I was tired. By the way, I really like your "how to" videos. I'm having fun with OSC astro imaging, but moving into mono is a steep curve when I think about the pre-processing steps in Pixinsight. Would you possibly be able to make a walk through with calibration steps, flats, etc geared to mono? Thanks!

@I_Spaced_Out8 ай бұрын
So, I googled it for you, and I think it's meant to be focused using internal camera controls. turn off auto focus in the daytime, and practice focusing on distant things like towers or something. Once you get something in focus far away, wait until night to confirm.

When adjusting the secondary with the laser that center dot looks just as blown out in reality as it does on camera. Makes it hard to know if you’re exactly on point. Pro tip: when making that adjustment, wear sunglasses and use a ND or filter laying around to look at it. You’ll get it pinpoint accurate. 😎. Thanks for your video. Super helpful.
@I_Spaced_Out8 ай бұрын
Never thought to try the sunglasses. I turn on lights to swamp out the fringe laser light, so only the bright core is visible.
