Question, does anyone know why the stripper clip for the K31 looks way different than other rifles of that era?

Mostly just because the Swiss wanted the ammo to have better protection from the elements. The K31 can also use a standard stamped metal stripper clip like all the other rifles of the era, they just were never produced in large numbers.

The cartridge diameter is the same as the base as a 30-06 and they are all pretty much completely reverse compatible. I say reverse compatible as in, you can load 7.62 into a en-bloc clip, and such, but you cannot load a 30-06 into a M1A/M14 magazine.

I'd love to get an M1A Natl Match. Cool rifle. I love my 1944 M1 Garand. I'd suggest disengaging the safety with your thumb so as not to accidentally fire the weapon.
