To be fair, Astarion does kind of make himself look sus. He attacks the PC and the party first time he meets them and then he tries to bite the PC when they're asleep.

Sometimes, it's easy to forget that they have a lottle worm sitting there, eating away at their brains... Or, Astarion clearly did at least. Ascending him made the poor lil fella hungry. Too bad there's nothing left to eat now.

Ascended Astarion, Dark Justiciar Shadowheart, Vlaakith champion Lae'zel, and even God Gale, those are fates far worse than Death, hell, even if Wyll sells his soul completely he isn't such a shell of himself like these are, as cringeworthy as this is to watch, it's also heartwrenchly sad. In this regard, not even the "bad ending" of Karlach dying is so bad as this, those are more akin of her turning into a Mind-Flayer.

Ok this is a perfect conversation for my Blood Hunter to have with him, he’ll accept more power if it gets him closer to his goals, but he’s become more attached to the Spawn than he ever wanted to, pitying him instead of slaying him whenever he first got the chance to spring his trap on Astarion, luring him in, not telling him he already knew what he was. You can tell the relief in his voice after you call him sweet. That he knows why you are saying it and you seem to be taking back the words of leaving him.

He's so loving, sweet and supportive here. And so emotional, even when he's still trying to default back to his instinctive flippant sass. When he says that he'd probably still get more looks than Tav, and how not enough people mention how beautiful he is, he sounded like he was on the verge of tears. The relationship nearly ending really shook him up a lot more than he let on. His knee jerk reaction to blame himself for the relationship nearly ending shows how much trauma he still has surrounding a real love and a real relationship.
