Funny dynamic that the one male is interviewing only females regarding comfort women. What about the atrocities that south korea commited in vietnam during the vietnam war. No official apologies from s korea to vietnam and not taught in schools. There were many rapes and massacres from s korean soldiers towards innocent vietnamese women and children. Very hypocritical, but South koreans want to be victims as always and demand still more apologies aand more money even if there have been lots of money (treaty of san fransisco) and many apologies....

"Comfort women” refers to the system of sexual slavery created and controlled by the Imperial Japanese government between 1932 and 1945. It is the largest case of government-sponsored human trafficking and sexual slavery in modern history. Many scholars have argued that the term comfort women, a euphemism coined by the Japanese military, obscures the gravity of the crime. While the authors agree that “military sexual slaves” is a much more accurate and appropriate phrase, we use the term comfort women in this article to refer specifically to the victims of the Japanese military’s sexual slavery system during World War II and “on which decades of international debate, historical research, and legal discourses are mounted,” following the earlier scholarly works.1 Estimates vary as to how many women were involved, but most scholars agree that hundreds of thousands of women were victimized, and that includes girls as young as twelve years old. A majority of the women who were forced into sexual slavery came from Korea and China, although many women from Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Việt Nam, Thailand, Burma, East Timor, and the Dutch East Indies, as well as European women in Japanese-occupied territories, were forced into sexual slavery.

While Japan burned a significant number of documents to absolve itself of any responsibility in relation to comfort women, estimates say that around 300,000 women from Japan’s occupied territories became part of the comfort women system during WWII.[6] Although started in 1932, this gruesome project gained momentum in 1937, after the Rape of Nanking, in which 20.000 women were abused by the Japanese troops.[7] The Confucian society that was most prominent in the occupied territories regards chastity as a primary value, considering any type of extramarital sexual relation as promiscuous. Contrarily, sexual intercourse was perceived by the Japanese military as an essential good, particularly prior to combat, as it allegedly protected them against injury.[8] Thus, rape became one sensitive subject related to the Imperial Army which had to be solved to preserve Japan’s reputation in front of the population residing in the occupied territories in order to avoid civil unrest. Thus, Japan decided to create a system of camps in which the troops could satisfy their sexual needs in a controlled environment

Japan’s cunning attempt to cover up crimes by claiming that there is no official ‘material evidence’ of military forced mobilization Japan, even the former and current prime ministers, have come forward and said, “There is no official document between Korea and Japan indicating the forced mobilization of Japanese military comfort women.” They have not reflected on their anti-human rights crimes during the colonial period at all. The Japanese government, which talks about ‘official documents,’ is turning a blind eye to historical truth. If ‘official documents’ are the only evidence, then what about the evidence that has been poured out by Japanese historians, as well as in Korea, Taiwan, the Netherlands, Indonesia, and the Philippines, regarding the establishment of comfort women and comfort stations? These are immovable indicators that demand strong legal responsibility from Japan. The notice sent by the Japanese Army Ministry’s adjutant to the chief of staff of the Northern Area Army and the Central Garrison Army on March 4, 1938, contained the content of ‘maintaining the military’s prestige in cracking down on those involved in recruiting comfort women and making appropriate personnel selections so as not to cause social problems.’ The ‘Military Discipline Promotion Measures’ written by the Japanese Army Ministry’s adjutant on September 19, 1940 stated that educational guidance reference materials were sent with the intent that ‘comfort facilities have a significant impact on morale, maintaining military discipline, and preventing crime and venereal diseases, so caution is needed.’ The ‘Yusu List’ written by the Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare containing personal records of comfort women before and after liberation was also discovered in 2005. The witness report written by the US military in 1994 contains the actual conditions of the recruitment and management of Japanese military comfort women as testified by prisoners of war. The ‘Jisu Dai Diary’ is a document written by the Japanese Army Ministry on March 4, 1938, and is considered to be the basis for the establishment of the Japanese military comfort station system. It contains instructions to closely cooperate with the military police and police authorities and prevent social problems as the disturbance caused by recruiting comfort women would affect the military’s prestige.

According to JAPANESE historian Yuki Tanaka: “cannibalism was often a systematic activity conducted by whole squads and under the command of officers”. This frequently involved murder for the purpose of securing bodies. For example, an Indian POW, Havildar Changdi Ram, testified that: “[on November 12, 1944] the Kempeitai beheaded [an Allied] pilot. I saw this from behind a tree and watched some of the Japanese cut flesh from his arms, legs, hips, buttocks and carry it off to their quarters … They cut it [into] small pieces and fried it.” In some cases, flesh was cut from living people: another Indian POW, Lance Naik Hatam Ali (later a citizen of Pakistan), testified in New Guinea and stated: “… the Japanese started selecting prisoners and every day one prisoner was taken out and killed and eaten by the Japanese soldiers. I personally saw this happen and about 100 prisoners were eaten at this place by the Japanese.

But there were no Korean comfort women trials after the war. Because US investigated Korean comfort women and reported that they were professionals paid for their service.

@@Lopez-z8l Well, Japan Times reported what Asahi newspaper had reported: Asahi Shimbun admits errors in past 'comfort women' stories / Japan Times _The Asahi Shimbun admitted Tuesday to serious errors in many articles on the "comfort women" issue, retracting all stories going back decades that quoted a Japanese man who claimed he kidnapped about 200 Korean women and forced them to work at wartime Japanese military brothels._

Koreans should also mention the Lai Dai Han. US soldiers testify to the brutality of the Korean army. Comfort women is a novel by Seiji Yoshida. It was South Korea that used it. The Asahi Shimbun apologised, saying the comfort women were a fabrication. During the Korean War, the Korean military recruited comfort women. The Korean Government set up comfort women for the Korean and US forces, calling them ‘special comfort troops’. The Korean Government operated comfort bases for the ROK and UN forces.
