For the gland packing nut… just bolt the tire back to the rotor and turn it loose with an adjustable wrench 🥹

Thanks! I'm restoring my dad's gold '83. Very low miles, but it's been in his garage for 35 years, so everything rubber is being replaced. All 4 struts are dead. But it drives and purrs like a kitten (after replacing everything that touches fuel).

Hey friend! We met at the RK Motor show a few months ago. I have a 87 944s that's currently overheating... it's leaking coolant under the car on the passenger side. Ever dealt with this before ? Heater core? Thanks man.
@hondatsunfan1011

That's probably the water pump if it's towards the front of the car, then. Try using K-seal. It should hold until you do a water pump replacement. Do the timing belt at the same time.

You can't reuse the cotter pin? The guy I did this with said it was fine. Now the entire right side was replaced about 10 years ago, swing arm, axle, strut etc... I'm assuming also the cotter pin. Maybe thats' why. He was adamant that it was fine.

on my 7th gen (different motor different plug), the egr is kinda in the way. I the last one I put on I had put no rtv and it leaked. ... slow but was making a mess and was like popped out at the top. cant risk catastrophic failure. on the one i installed this morning (after cleaning and drying the surface and o'ring area ) gobbled black oil resistant permatex all on that new plug lol even the o-ring not giving a damn. even after i wiggled and smahed it into place (without damaging its clips) with the egr in the way, al also smeared some more rtv all around the out side of the cap lol. i let it dry for like 30minutes-1hr and drove to work. 30 minutes parked checked, no leaks and its more dry. i was in a hurry and i have a couple of more of these things so... if i messed up i dgaf bucause i still need to change my VC gasket anyway. Im really just tired of working on this thing. Feel free to ask me for the rest of my life how long did it hold. ill check it again tomorrow.

What do you do with the pipe that goes from the top of the tank to the radiator? When I try your method, I seem to just be blowing air into the radiator.
@hondatsunfan1011
@hondatsunfan1011 8 ай бұрын
You are supposed to reconnect that after you top off the coolant there!
@francisbe3898
@francisbe3898 8 ай бұрын
@@hondatsunfan1011 Not sure we’re talking about the same pipe. I’m talking about the small diameter pipe that goes from the top of the coolant tank, near the overflow pipe, to the top of the radiator, just above the big diameter pipe.
@hondatsunfan1011
@hondatsunfan1011 8 ай бұрын
All pipes need to stay connected. Only the bleeder screw is cracked. When you cover the reservoir opening with your hand and blow into the overflow tube, the system is closed and the only place for air to go is out the screw. If that's not happening, you have a leak or didn't put enough coolant in to even start this process.

Next time try removing the castle nut ( or just loosening it ) and bolting the assembly back to the strut. Then you can use a pickle fork to pop the old ball joint out. Force and shock at the same time make life easier.

@@hondatsunfan1011 correct me if I’m wrong, I just got my Datsun but I was just reading in a Datsun forum 280ZX are 80-90 not that it’s a HUGE difference. @hondatsunfan1011
@hondatsunfan1011 9 ай бұрын
It depends on your climate, honestly, just like engine oil viscosity. Also, most importantly you need GL-4, so you don't dissolve the brass synchros. That's way more important than the slight difference in weight.
