I’m curious about this too! Was looking to order some boxes

Those look really awesome! We are thinking of getting some Premier hive boxes this fall. Did you go with the select or mill run quality? We have gotten burned with "budget" in the past from some other bee supplier.

You guys should be feeding those bees so they cam draw those frames out. I would give them 3/4 to 1 . And they need the food from what i can see
@blitzbee5 ай бұрын
You're right. In fact we should have fed these colonies in the summer of 2022 when we were first growing them out of nucs. They went into winter with small populations and lots of undrawn frames which is why they looked like this in spring 2023.

@Jessicake225 ай бұрын
So they need a new queen?
@blitzbee5 ай бұрын
No they had a queen at this point. This video was taken right before the bees started to raise new queens to prepare for swarming. It probably still had a couple weeks to go before it was ready to swarm. When a hive swarms the old queen goes with a large part of the colony and attempts to find a new home. The queen cells (swarm cells) they make will hopefully provide the left behind bees with a new queen.

Great videos, you should do a video on your camo mini truck. It's so cool! I'm thinking of getting one for my beekeeping operation.
@blitzbee5 ай бұрын
Thank you! When I saw it for the first time I laughed. It feels like a clown car and doesn't seem like it should be street legal. We drive it between our main farms and use it like a mule. Both the driver's seat and the stick shift are on the wrong side for us Americans. I will say that little truck has never been stuck. It's pretty handy for our small operation.

Take a look at That Bee Man at Faith Apiaries, he builds all the pallets for Ian Steppler and has a pretty nice design. They are only two way but might make it easier for how you guys work. Great info, thanks. I think 2 way pallets would probably work pretty well for us.

Love the effort, but I thought you might like a couple quick tips to seriously speed up your production and improve your design. The key to making side bars is using a wood jointer. Take a look at this video, specifically about 24 minutes in, by Roger's Shop, Cutting Hive Frames Part I. End Bars. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3jdn4p4idiAhNEsi=RA3eu4jE-tpj5oVU

@@blitzbee Hive Frames Part II of a 2 part series,kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYrUoaKjmK5sY8ksi=zSKkwnAJ3roS9971 is a good video on the top bars. If Tomas Bacon of Union bee company ever puts his videos back up, you should check them out. He uses a shaper with 4 or 5 thin kerf saw blades stacked up. This allows you to rip 3 or 4, 3/8" side bars at a time. This really speeds up the process. You might be able to do the same thing on the table saw, kind of like a dado blade, with 3/8" spacing, without the chipper blades. Hope that made sense. Anyway. Keep up the good work! Just wondering, what state are you located in?
@robertramoneda82835 ай бұрын
@@blitzbee One last comment and I'll move on. Just wanted to point out, when you guys are ripping the top bars and bottom bar notch, to accept the sidebar ears. Make a table saw sled. Then when you cut with the 3/8" dado blade, you can rip 10-20 at a time, and you don't have to worry about kickback, like you do when you just run them across the table top, one at a time. Good Luck.
