Would this work for transmission as well? I suspect because of the LNA it won't, but am I correct? Is there something like this in this sort of price range, but for both rx/tx? I need it for extending the antenna on an Inmarsat phone, and the only thing I'm finding is marine equipment which is always overpriced.
@FrugalRadio12 күн бұрын
No, this is a receive only antenna, as you correctly suspected. eBay can't sometimes turn up Inmarsat gear, and might be an avenue to explore.
@fixfaxerify11 күн бұрын
@@FrugalRadio Thx I'll have a look at that. Btw, any idea how these active antennas for marine that I'm finding works, since they are both rx/tx but only have one SMA connector, and somehow they are able to add gain in both directions (or maybe only on rx, but they are able to have tx on the same line). Promise this will be final question :) thx

That was SDRUno - a companion software to SDRPlay devices like the well-respected RSP units.

If you set this up as a base would it show the locations of mobile radios as they moved around? Kind of the reverse of finding a repeater with a car moving around?

I'm new to the hobby... will the YouLoop work on a portable radio (SW & MW)?

Not especially well. It works best with a highly sensitive receiver, not your average SW/MW radio.

You can also purchase the new version direct from RTL-SDR.com store.

Can the RTL-SDRv4 derived signals be filtered out in software using GNU Radio ( a program I haven't yet played with yet)? I'm particularly interested in getting the best possible typical ISM Lora bands.
@nickrolfe367Ай бұрын
Is this antenna capable of receiving all types of bands or just aviation pls?

L band only. So Inmarsat aviation & Marine signals (1.5GHz) along with Iridium signals (1.6GHz).

@@FrugalRadio Ah okay great thanks, I after an antenna that will work across the rtl capabilities, based in Wales. Thanks again.

Yeah, this one is only good for satellite work. Check out the D-777 by Diamond for general aviation monitoring.

Is it no better then a table telescopic antenna on vhf/uhf?
@FrugalRadioАй бұрын
It may be a little better, in that you can hang it from a light fixture or a window. The additional height brings benefits on VHF/UHF. However the telescope kit that comes with the RTL-SDR will perform better by a window because you can time it to the length you need for the signal you wish to monitor.

I just bought a YouLoop for my SDRplay RSP1B. It was a total waste of money. No signals on any frequency except a few weak ones on broadcast FM. No open connections. Any piece of wire worked much better. My 40/20/15 meter fan dipole works great on all bands. I set up the YouLoop in the back yard to get away from noise sources. Noise level was -140DBm. Still no signals. A 40 meter Hamstick produced many signals. The YouLoop is a scam.
@jamesbrady91052 ай бұрын
I set up the Sofware and appears to be working, but I cant decode any signals, even though I can see signals in SDR. I live in Richmond, Virginia and there are a lot of hospitals in the area, so I should be able to pick up and decode something?
@FrugalRadio2 ай бұрын
A first step would be to identify that the signals you are receiving are indeed pages. Have a listen to the various protocols on sigwiki.

I noticed some important details with my kraken. Make sure the multiplication factor is correct for your frequency and array radius. I edited the Excel cheat sheets to better suit my specific needs (custom frequency, array radius and all metric fields nownhave adjacent cells in inches). Make sure the target carrier signal lines up on the spectrum tab with your target frequency. Make sure the bandwidth isn't too thin (I was using 12500hz on a 25000hz signal, but the spectrum was slightly offside of the actual carrier. This was a major problem, as it seemed to be functioning correctly, but it tried to lead me 10 miles past the transmitter. It was accurate initially, but went bad quickly, and seemed good on the map. Tricky. Will test again this weekend. I'm not an expert, but this has been my limited experience. NOAA weather frequency might be a good constant VHF signal to hunt at first (162.55, or whichever frequency has a TX near your home).

I am new to ACARS decoding and have the sdr-kits magnetic stick on antenna and rtl-sdr V3 blog. My location is poor but managed to receive some signals/decodes by mounting it on a pole and sticking it out of a first floor window. However it only works after dark. Any idea why this is? Coud this be solar interference etc? Many thanks.
@FrugalRadio3 ай бұрын
Is it VHF ACARS, HFDL or Satellite ACARS (JAERO) you are experimenting with?
@jemussi78423 ай бұрын
@@FrugalRadio Thanks for your response. It is satellite 1.545GHz with JAERO.
@FrugalRadio3 ай бұрын
Ok, strange. Possible that it is solar interference, but more likely just more background noise received by day. Or perhaps you are receiving reflections, rather than direct from the satellite path. Check that you have the fish pointed directly at the SAT, and are not picking up via a window reflection. Also use a shorter coax run if you can, or replace the extension coax with something less lossy. Also verify clear line of site to the satellite, eg no trees getting in the way. What antenna are you using? The RTL-SDR L band patch? NooElec kit? Modified GPS?
@jemussi78423 ай бұрын
The walls and ground act as a corner reflector for the incoming signal. As it is reflected thrice before proceeding outwards again, the polarisation is correct if the incoming signal was also a relection and can hence be decoded. Would also work if a direct signal reflected off only two walls if approximately parallel with the ground.

Would you be able to add any insight on the scan speed if this were used with a mobile device with less computing power than a computer (such as a cell phone). I would like to have a handheld sdr setup since I move it from vehicle to vehicle when going to watch the jets. As of now I use a Uniden BC365CRS and a Quansheng UV-K6. Which works, but scanning the whole milair band in under 3 seconds, or even 10 seconds would be a massive improvement! Thanks!
