Hi, Sir,please tell me,about nesdr smart v5, on this sdr vhf and uhf best work?and please tell me about airspy vs nesdr smart v5,which one the best work?please guide me.thanks
@FrugalRadio2 күн бұрын
I still prefer the RTL-SDR v3 over the Smart v5. It is more sensitive. The Airspy R2 is a very different SDR. If you need wide bandwidth, it is the one to go for. But again, RTL-SDR v3 picks up some things the Airspy doesn't.

put the balun in a project box, run a short wire to bolts on either side, plus a loop on top to hang it, and then a coaxial connector on the bottom that connects to the balun, allows you to mount it anywhere without worry about the elements. just saying. You can put it together for $20-30 in parts plus the balun itself.

I feel like I'm doing... SOMETHING wrong! I picked up the Airspy HF+, And a Youloop, and I just cannot get anything over -90db. I see things are there, I see some carriers, but there's just so much noise, nothing is usable!
@FrugalRadio2 ай бұрын
You could start by ensuring you're using the right mode. AM for broadcast signals, LSB or USB for sideband. Also check your audio level, in case the volume is down. Even with no signal being received, you should be able to hear some noise.
@kylevanhuizen16702 ай бұрын
@@FrugalRadio Oh I can definitely hear some noise! And I'm sure I'm in the right modes. For example, If I tune into 15mhz wwv from WA state , USA, Right now at 0341UTC, I Can hear it, IT's definitely there. But Just barely coming in at -100db, only a bit above the noise floor. I'm not positive if there's THAT much RFI in my area or if I happened across defective materials.
@FrugalRadio2 ай бұрын
@kylevanhuizen1670 it could be the band conditions as well. Sometimes there doesn't appear to be a great deal of signal. Wait a day or two and try again! Sorry I had misread your original post, thinking it said you heard no noise, rather than the signals not being much above the noise floor.

(they are currently simulcast). I would love to set up my own scanner for local fire departments (non trunked.. and in the 400's) because any time anyone puts them on broadcastify they're down within a week or two. (someone doesn't want them online and I think I know who). Anywho... I"m at a loss when it comes to programming and I would have no idea where to even begin to get this set up. if anyone has or knows of an online dumbed down tutorial I would be greatly appreciative. I cannot pay someone to do it for me as I don't have the money. Thank you!

You are more likely to find DMR at airports when it comes to digital modes. Airport police would be Tetra, but I haven't encountered airport staff using it. The aviation comms will be AM analog in the 118-137 MHz range.

@@FrugalRadio Wau! You are the first person who answers a question so fast in KZbin! Congratulations! I am a biginnner and I bought two radios but I don't know if they will be good for my needs. What do you advise? No need for license and a range at least 40 kilometers without need for internet connection.
@FrugalRadio4 ай бұрын
@emmanueltavora8642 the rules are going to be different for each country, so your options will be based on where you live. Most options will require a license of some kind. That's where PoC (network radios) come in. As long as you have internet available, you can communicate over very long distances. 40km would be no problem. For traditional consumer radios, you'd be looking at GMRS, possibly MURS, CB if you are in the US. PMR446 in Europe.

@@FrugalRadio I am in Israel. To use a radio that requires internet I would stay with my normal smartphone. I am thinking of something for emergency when there is no internet and electricity. Because we are in a place usually bombard by Hesbollah: Katzrin, Golan Heights. We are almost living in a safe room: They call it Migunit. 3 meters by 3 with air conditioner. I am 60 my wife 79 with difficult mobility and I work also all day and the Bunker was far for her to go alone so I bought this safe room for our garden. I connected electricity, internet fiber, put tv, small fan for emergency and bought a bluetti power station with solar panel 200watts. Two Motorola walkie talkie GP518 but I don't know if they are going to be able for communication because my work is 36 km distant.
@FrugalRadio4 ай бұрын
@emmanueltavora8642 sorry for all the trouble you have there. We see it often in the news. Sounds like very difficult times. To cover the 36km would be difficult, for that you would need a repeater system unless your home or workplace is very high and within line of sight. You would also need to know from the authorities what channels / frequencies are legal to use there. Unfortunately I do not have any information regarding the rules in Israel.

Would this work for transmission as well? I suspect because of the LNA it won't, but am I correct? Is there something like this in this sort of price range, but for both rx/tx? I need it for extending the antenna on an Inmarsat phone, and the only thing I'm finding is marine equipment which is always overpriced.

No, this is a receive only antenna, as you correctly suspected. eBay can't sometimes turn up Inmarsat gear, and might be an avenue to explore.

@@FrugalRadio Thx I'll have a look at that. Btw, any idea how these active antennas for marine that I'm finding works, since they are both rx/tx but only have one SMA connector, and somehow they are able to add gain in both directions (or maybe only on rx, but they are able to have tx on the same line).
