Tesla does it: there is actually a 12 volt lead acid battery in Teslas to run the 12 volt things. It charges with the same alternator technology as on gas cars, so only when the high volt lithium battery pack auto is running/rolling. Gas cars still need lead acid for starter batteries because of that same alternator technology and also internal combustion engines and both are designed to work with lead acid. If you have isolate connect controls on different battery type banks, it can and does work.

Hi Chuck, love your water bottle freezing indicator! Unfortunately I see a problem with your setup, in that, hot air rises, even pads directly contacting object do much better mounted on the bottom, so the heat rises into the battery! Also your temp sensor is right near the heating pad so reading a bit high, I think. So I’d mount one orange heat pad under each battery, and not use the new pad that always shuts off after a certain time. If you’re at home and the lithium’s are above 30%, just take them inside your house, or heated garage if you have one. Lithium’s don’t sulphate so no need to ever worry if they’re part charged. Just don’t let them discharge below about 12.5 volts, or a bit higher. Take care, and God bless.

Also the lead acid will stay at rest at a lower voltage slightly. They usually read about 12.8 v rested not charged recently. And your Lifepo4 battery will stay around 13.6v to 13.4v at rest not recently charged. So Lifepo4 battery will be taking up the slack slightly, it will work, but best to use in near future, only use all Lifepo4 batteries in your battery bank. All characteristics between batteries of same type work well together. You have to watch your voltages between different types of batteries in 12v range. Keep all batteries wired together at same voltage as best you can. I know batteries are not cheap. 😊

Actually your okay, the lead acid batteries are charging the Lifepo4 battery because they are at a slightly over voltage over Lifepo4. Lifepo4 battery can handle a 100 amp charge so the lead acid was maybe 1 amp of charge to the Lifepo4 battery. You can keep charging at 14.2v on lead acid, so lead acid charging is actually lower than Lifepo4 charging at 14.6v. You are not too far off your Lifepo4 battery charging volts at a slight lower 14.2v, but its okay to charge Lifepo4 at a lower charge voltage. Pretty close to the same run time charging Lifepo4 at 14.2v lead acid charging vs 14.6v Lifepo4 charging voltage. They say Lifepo4 will last longer at lower charge voltage but at the expense of a slightly less run time.

Hi Chuck, I hope you’re well, I have been researching lithium phosphate batteries and I think switching the newer lithium battery off will cause problems. The reason is the BMS’s will limit the huge current flowing from the charged lithium to the not so charged lithium. It can cause the BMS’s to trip or worse, blown fuses! Actually thinking you have to charge one up, is memories from dealing with lead acid (which like to be fully charged), whereas lithium is not affected by part charges. Just don’t let them drain and sit for months. I like the other switch you have to disconnect the other house batteries. I’m ordering a pair of lithium phosphate batteries for my RV, and will be installing them in a void under the bed, to keep them above freezing. I like your heating pads and will get some too I think. Safe travels, God Bless you and your family.

Absolutely nothing wrong with connecting Lead Acid to LiFePO4. It's how you do it, not if. I have been running 1100 AH of LiFePO4 with 3300 AH of Lead Acid for 2 years. You use lighter gauge wire from the lithium so it's your voltage support, connect your big loads to your lead acid with heavy cables.

Thank you for this video, seeing the Lectrics made me cry a little. Jackie and I rode regular bikes every day for several years, that is how we met 9 years ago. I still ride my regular bike far more than my ebike. When her health declined, I bought a black Lectric 2 for me and a white one for Jackie. We rode together with a little dog in each basket for about a year, so our mileage kept equal. Jackie required heart surgery in May 2023. She was back to her daily swimming routine 6 weeks after surgery but, she worried about falling off the bike and rarely rode after surgery. Now, my mileage is about 1850 while hers is 'stuck' at about 1100. Jackie died yesterday of heart failure after a hospital stay for sepsis of the blood. She was very sick and her demise seemed near. Hi, I just found your channel. Lead and Lithium combined is a good idea and from your 3-part series, you’ve seen same boat youtubers as I have. Lead has the push as you say but not stamina. For lead to last it is recommended not to take them below 50% depth of discharge (DOD) with optimal being not below 70% DOD. With your 360amp lead that gives you 2300w at 50% & 1400w at 70% DOD of usable power from a 4600w system, not enough to keep the fridge running over night without killing your batteries. Lithium you can take down to 20% DOD without affecting overall lifespan giving you 2000w of usable power. So now in theory your system is good for 3400w to 4300w of usable power without affecting the overall life of the batteries. In part 2 you show the monitor and solar input is 15.2v at 16.1 amps which is 245 watts going in and discharge at 13.1v at 18.9 amps is 247 watts of power going out of the batteries. If this was early morning, fair enough. But if this was in the afternoon and your batteries are only ¾ charged, you have a problem. If it was shown in the afternoon, your solar can’t keep up with you day usage with the fridge running, let alone any charging for the overnight use. General rule of thumb is average out at 50% of total watts of solar on flat roof. So, you definitely need more panels mate, at the very least another 600 watts. If your lead are old or have been discharged below 50% to many times, this will drain the lithium to keep the 13.2v float that lithium likes and lead loves. Check out this guy kzbin.info/www/bejne/jna6dniimax2nsUsi=Uc7ijRit31xP1H0O he’s done a bit now with lithium/lead combos and has some good results. Keep up the good work

I've checked my l16 lead acid batteries and I found them to be faulty! I've used them for many years and have always worked great! Now I'm in a dilemma? I believe I'm going to replace them both with two lithium 200 amp hour batteries. They still will be mixed with two 6 V golf cart batteries that are cabin batteries. We will see how that will work out? It's not done so please subscribe to my channel as I have subscribed to yours Thanks for watching and may God bless you!

Riding in 100°, I'll get a high battery heat warning. I had to ride in 115° last week. If I blow it up, I'll buy another one. By choice I'm not driving my truck. It's hot in the desert.

I could not agree more that this should be a recall / safety issue and i'm going to be looking further into that. I can't imagine a mother getting ready to leave and maybe stopping to talk to a neighbor while her car is still running in the driveway and her infant/child in the back seat and all the sudden the a/c goes to full hot in the middle of a Florida summer. Ridiculous. I have the same problem with my 2015 MKS. I'm trying to find a video on how to actually fix the panel. Very frustrating.

Sodium batteries can discharge to a 0% charge, but lithium I think is 40% around 10V. I stop them around 11v to be safe. I believe you may have damaged your lead acid batteries and they will suck drain and waste power to the if there fried.

Hello again friend, I believe the lithium ion battery Industries not tell us the truth or hide the truth? I've been using lead acid batteries with my solar system for over 10 years and what I've learned lead acid likes to be topped off! The lithium batteries will bring them up to 13.1% which is top off for lead acid! I don't believe I'm damaged my batteries but I will check them thank you for bringing it up. Thank you for watching may God bless you!

Lead acid was invented by the Egyptian's 4000+ years ago. They were just made better in 19centery. I always wanted to mix some to see what happened but I'm to pour to get a set so if I did I wouldn't be doing funny things with it lol
