I love Tom Snyder AND I love John Waters and Divine, so this is an interesting bit to watch. Tom could have been less judgmental, but see him with other subjects, and he's a great interviewer. I think you have to consider the times here. Now Waters is beloved, but back then he was very fringe and out there and threatening to a large population of the world. I'm always fascinated by how gentle and quiet Divine is in real life, which means he really was a fabulous actor. Divine balded early, which did age him, and the weight didn't help.

I can listen to Pepper and Dorian and Venus talk all day. They all had so much history in the scene and had so much to offer those who followed their footsteps. So many were taken from us far too soon.

girl why they had to make it look like venus had nobody? she was loved and the corrupt populus weaponizing her likeness against her own community didn't want anyone to believe that such love could ever exist, isolating and dehumanizing us, thus excusing our marginalization.

Dorian Corey had dead body of a man stashed in her closet for many years. After Dorian died in the mid 90's, someone discovered the body and called the police. This story was written in the newspaper. So during this interview, there was a dead body the closet and no one knew at the time.

i read an article that a corpse with gunshot wound in the head was found in Corey's apartment after her death! it was determined it was there for like 20 years, mummified. i can't believe that it seems like that corpse was already THERE when this video was shot.. so while she is sitting there talking about life and putting make up on, she had a corpse rotting in her house..

and such prescient and philosophical reflexion of the pretty straight man in blue telling about the eternity in being filmed at that very moment. 1:18:00

When you see the level of intelligence and street wise all of these great people have, coming from nothing, no education, still bright and cultivated, being drags or hookers, yet having all the grace and eloquence of philosophy teachers, when you see the whole movie, hearing the hard time these kids suffrered, no parents, no homes on their own really, living on tricks and small jobs, then you look at all the 2024 trash so-called "Influencers" that can't have an intelligent conversation, have zero cultural background except for fake boobs, lip fillers, nail filing, botox, cheek implants and Onlyfans revenues... When all of that went wrong?

It’s pretty brave of the film creator to share so candidly about the pushback and denial she got in her field because of the drags queen’s race and sexuality. I wonder how THAT affected her career later..
