It's worth noting that the "giant knobs" actually resemble giant knobs of a more colloquial kind.

Have you seen Phantom of the Paradise? If you like RHPS, I think you’ll definitely like that one. Another campy 70’s musical.

What gets lost in all the attention the audience participation gets is that this is actually a really good movie.

Charles Gray, who played the narrator, played the best Blofeld in one of the worst James Bond movies, “Diamonds are Forever.” He made a great Bond villain but the movie was too campy to make good use of him. He also played a great evil warlock, Mocata, based on an infamous real life Satanist, Aleister Crowley in a Hammer horror film, “The Devil Rides Out.

Rocky Horror is a musical comedy homage to classic sci-fi and horror films. There are references to those films in the opening song, character names, and other places.

Great reactions. But I was surprized that you were so puritan watching some scenes.

You have a good read on this movie. I have to admit that in spite of having been to multiple midnight showings, I never really thought about the plot that much. Its just a fun watch with fun audience participation. That said, your reaction helped clear up a few confusing plot points, so thank you for that. I'll be looking for more reactions from you to movies I love.

Didn't know this was Letterboxd's top movie. Actually kinda the perfect movie to be at the top for a movie review platform that is predominated by mostly younger demographics(compared to IMDB for eg.), as La La Land was a movie directed by a young director paying homage to the great directors of old. All the same, it's a comically perfect movie that checks every box. Converted me to musicals, which I never liked. Kinda jealous that there's people in 2024 that are just seeing it for the first time.

Tim Curry released a few albums. I like his version of Take Me I'm Yours, She's Not there and his original songs like Working On My Tan. Everyone recognises Tim and Susan, but Brad is played by Barry Bostwick, who made many movies and tv shows, including Spin City. There was a 'sequel' called Shock Treatment, set in an alternate world, based in a tv studio, where people don't die, they get written out! It stars Richard O'Brien (Riff Raff), Patricia Quinn (Magenta) and Little Nell (Columbia). It is also filled with great songs, and has a Brad and Janet, but they are played by Jessica Harper and Cliff De Young.

Tim ran into Richard while he was searching London's gyms for a bodybuilder that could act. When he asked why, he got a quick synopsis of the play, and asked to be sent the script. He loved the idea of Frank-N-Furter and was the person that really established the character (modelled more than a little on Queen Elizabeth II), The Rocky Horror Show ran to successful seasons in London (admittedly in smaller theatres that were converted cinemas, hence the staging), and a successful season in Los Angeles, which brought it to the attention of Hollywood. Which filmed it (with a few changes), and added Picture to the title. And whilst it wasn't very successful on release, it soon developed a regular cult following with regular late night screenings, and history was made. And yes, you really really should attend one of these screenings, which often involve audience participation lines (which do vary according to where in the world you are watching it).

you really must watch the movies that this is celebrating; old rko film horror movies like frankenstein, the bride of frankenstein, and so forth. it was a love letter to rock and old horror movies, and wildly ahead of it's time. when i saw it in the theater, i was somewhere traveling thru the midwest and had looked forward to this since i heard the original stage production recording. there were about 5 people in the audience, including me. most of the world back then was not even a tiny bit ready for this. but some of us were. a life long love affair with tim curry's work was born here for many of us.

I watched for the first time in 1978 where it ran at the Rialto Theatre in South Pasadena, California for three decades, starting in January 1978 and ending with a farewell performance on December 29, 2007. I was at the final showing as well and it was kind of sad to have a teenage tradition finally end. There are still annual Halloween showings and I highly recommend it. Thanks for the review! It was awesome to see someone appreciate it the way we all did back when it released. Richard O'Brien truly wrote a masterpiece and there will never be something quite like this again.

I've seen it ovee 350 times at the theatre and 2 stage productions. Even dressed up as Frank N. Furter a few times. You just can't sit watch this movie you have to participate in the movie. You also have to bring certain items along with you as well, you have to learn the shout-out lines and when to say them. Sitting on your couch watching the DVD just isn't the same.

I think this was the first 3d movies I saw in theaters, around when 3d was shiny and new. You can see it in some of the movement choices in the movie. If I remember right, in the title scene at one point the needle keeps coming right at your eye while the sewing is going on 🪡😬

Since it's release in 1975, this movie has played just about every weekend in a theater across the planet for 49 years. Making it the longest current run for any picture in cinema history. P.S. you editing style is... interesting.

I absolutely love this movie its just perfect. I got to thinking what could I do with it to give it a little "twist" I paired it up with a great John Mayer song and im so proud of it the lyric just resonates with the story . . . i hope it breathes new life into your revisit to LA Yes i absolutely lost it as well . . . . that scene when she goes into the club and he walks onstage and spots her in the audience . . just really hit me, Gosling really nailed that look of utter despair and of course the end scene wham. . . . another hit . . . kzbin.info/www/bejne/jorGpaiwnc6fkLM

This movie came out nearly 50 years ago, I grew up with it. No one was outside theaters protesting it, we had our subculture and I was happy with that. I actually miss those days, when we had our preferences and the mainstream had theirs.

When I was in college a local theater played this film every Saturday night at midnight. It was the first audience participation movie. At one point, one of the characters raises a glass and says "a toast." Everyone in the audience took out a piece of toast and tossed it into the air. This was only one of many participatory moments. Good times, good times.

Best reaction! Before this movie, there was "The Rocky Horror Show," a play/musical/audience participation gay iconic extravaganza. It was breathtaking. The movie is a different, but equally amazing experience live. Find a midnight playing near you and go. Then learn your lines and go again armed with toast and toilet paper.
