Thanks - very clear instructions. Such a simple thing, but when you're learning a craft, every little bit of the process is something new. 😊

Dena, have you washed this before you start folding and pinning the hem?
@VermontWeaving4 ай бұрын
I don't wash first. I find the fabric much easier to handle before washing.

I, too, would go out and spend a lot of money on something to make life easier, rather than learn how to do something relatively simple… 😱😱😱

Yes, using floating selvedges is a fairly simple thing to learn how to do. On the other hand, as a weaver who has far more lovely things to weave than time to weave them, I value great technique and fluidity in my weaving. Whether or not to use floating selvedges is an ongoing debate in the weaving community, but I find them to be less than ideal for many reasons. I go into this in a bit more detail in this blog post www.vermontweavingsupplies.com/blog/why-i-try-to-avoid-floating-selvedges

Great review of FS's! I love your fix for the loom by suspending the thread behind the castle. On my Ashford Jack loom I do something similar, only I suspend the floaters in front of the castle, and instead of a string (a heddle, basically) holding up the floater, I made a bent wire on each side that hooks over the top of the castle and has a tall loop at the bottom for the floater to go through. I'm so enjoying all your videos!

Hello! I just stumbled across this series of YT videos, and find them quite interesting, it is always fun to see how someone else does something, just a bit differently form how I do it. What I find most interesting here is that you use lease sticks at the breast beam, when warping front to back. I’ve seen and used lease sticks when warping back to front many many times, but I’ve never used them going front to back, and yet now that I see your video I can understand how and why you are doing it this way. I may just give this a try on my Ashford 24”, 8 shaft table loom, which I usually warp F2B. Thanks for the idea, I will see if it works for me or knot.

Selvage on a floor loom isn't so hard, but on a rigid heddle loom?!?!? GGGGuuurl, I agree. It's a pain in the katookus!

As someone who is delving into weaving almost without any real instruction beyond books and youtube, I KNOW I am not doing things absolutely correctly. It is so good to hear that there is nothing wrong with that.
@VermontWeaving2 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I'm not so sure there is such a thing as "correctly"...and the best way to learn is to come face to face with a problem. Happy Weaving!

What happens when you are doing a sequence & changing to another? You are ending with a thin down but need to start with a heavy down. Are both thin & thick in same shed every time the sequence changes. The video only shows one sequence. Thank you.
@VermontWeaving2 жыл бұрын
Yes. When you switch keep the sequence and the light and then heavy will be in the same shed.

I am fairly new to weaving and did not know the beast of chenille. I have a huge mess and wish I had seen this series before I started. It's excellent, and your presentation of the process is fantastic. I will definitely use the lease sticks and front to back next time. Thank you for creating this series and sharing your wealth of knowledge.
