See a character like Amanda exists in almost every show in existence with a crazy male lead, she’s the sane partner who keeps him grounded. But in almost every other show she’s annoying as shit or sucks up all the fun. Credit where credit is due they wrote Amanda to be funny, relatable and complex which is rare for a female character in general but especially the “sane” girl amongst all the “crazy” guys. They did a great job with her, she’s one of my favourites ❤

Amanda is the outsider who sees the entire rivalry and subsequent events for what it is, absurd. The viewer sees it from both sides and is invested in both characters especially if you were a fan of the original, but Amanda reels everyone back in and reminds us that this is about two people in their late 40s who have a karate rivalry from the 1980s and how childish it is. We love it because we love the story but she keeps the story grounded in reality which is done in a very humorous way. At least in the first two seasons I should say.
