that reminded me so much about my first two bachata congresses

@@zouknerds one thing was how loud the music was The other, more important one, I did not like the music cause I was hoping to hear more traditional or songs that are more close to the traditional bachata like aventura or who I really liked El torito (don't know if you know much about bachata) but then it was so much of that very modern sensual stuff. That's atleast how it felt to me. And I was actually sad that I listen to so much bachata during regular life while the music on the congress was so different. But I know that there were also people who were missing remixes which surprised me because in my perception there were a lot :) Personally I like it most when there is lots of variety with a focus on the more original bachata I think that is kind of what you were talking about But I still danced to 6 in the morning on one day, but on the last day I was just done with it

I REALLY appreciate this conversation. I fully relate to the all-or-nothing dynamics you're talking about, as someone who went and opened a dedicated zouk studio within 4 years of starting to dance at all, myself (let alone zouk!). And this was back in 2012, when there were just tiny pockets of zouk bubbling in a few different parts of North America. After several years, my narrative became exactly what you're talking about: that I would have to stop teaching altogether (to find some yet-unknown semblance of balance). Fortunately(?), I couldn't help but stay in the zouk scene in some degree even up until the pandemic. I'm grateful that the pandemic (combined with family circumstances) gave me almost 4 zouk-free years to really balance out in other ways. And now that I'm testing the waters again in an earnest way (but now with un-zouk-related income!), this gives me lots to think about as I experience the tugs of new values and routines (9pm bedtime, anyone??? *_*!), and old, extreme-oriented habits. :)
