I love that he chose Gematria, that's one of my go tos when I pick up a drop b guitar, I wonder who in the band doesn't want to play it live

Most KZbin guitarists, while supremely talented, have no concept of it needing to be metaphorical. Lifeless content.

I know all hope is the famous one cause of all the popular singles which were good, but three entire album was really solid. Some very cool heavy shit kinda like an elaboration on vol. 3 imo

So funny to hear Sturgill talk about his whole world stopping and digging into records or having to literally pull over when he heard a new sound that caught his ear. Same thing happened to me the first time I heard Sturgill…literally.

Sturgill is completely correct about the level of talent of the random street musician in Nashville. All of them can play. Very very well.

I watch these and realize that anyone who plays guitar has these things. Whether you know it or not, you have things you do that, aren't unique to you probably, but the way you do them, the way you use them or the frequency with which you use them ARE pretty unique to you. And we almost always get these things from someone else, again, whether we know it or not. For me, it's the 6sus4 chord shape. I got that from David Bazan and have used it since I was a teenager. I had no idea what that shape was even called until like two years ago. I also make use of sus4 chords constantly in anything aggressive, I write. I learned those by learning "Life Is Pain" by Merauder. And the last thing is making use of interesting rhythms. I learned to play guitar solely to be in hardcore and metalcore bands. Inherently, in those genres, there are parts that are staples in that kind of music that you can only do so much with. So, I learned that even if the chords might not be interesting...the rhythm I play them at can be.
