The actual tunings are half a step down from what they show on screen. When it says "Open D" at 0:52 it's actually open C# (C#-G#-C#-F-G#-C#) and "Open G" at 9:03 really means open F# (C#-F#-C#-F#-A#-C#). And yes, I know the F in open C# is technically an E#, please don't send Adam Neely or Threatening Music Notation after me. So great to see this video back up!

What an iconic episode. It changed my life 10 years ago and made me fall in love with playing hill country blues. I had always loved listening to it since the first time I heard Chulahoma, but goddamn it's so cathartic to play. Open tune to G and crank up the reverb.

Before I tried a slide I thought of like having two or three ‘polished slide thimbles’ on two or three of your fingers, then I started playing slide with a normal slide n realised that’d be almost impossible to play with three single finger slides…… maybe if they wer incredibly polished grooves in em in which the string could sit…… I dunno… just another idiot idea of mine, like fitting ebows across the bridge n then just play slide over the ever ebowing string maybe with a bit of good whammy bar action too?? I mean, who’s doin that

I watched a Fat Possum doc about all these guys from the Delta who have wildly different styles and takes on playing Delta blues, most of them unknown or barely known (R. L. Burnside being the exception, Junior Kimbrough too since you're watching this). One man had lost fingers and was partially paralyzed from-nobody should have to go through those things. What he lost in dexterity and digits, he more than compensated for with creativity. He used butterknives and other assorted cutlery. He used whatever there was. He made his guitar sound unlike anything I've ever heard. He wasn't the only guy who was totally outside of the box, but if "Necessity is the mother of invention" was an old blues guitarist, it'd be him. I can't believe I don't remember his name. You'd dig it for sure. It should be easy to find on KZbin if you look through the videos from Fat Possum. Whoa... sorry for the rant! 💜
