Jason, what is the hook you use on this?

Daiichi 1760 2x curved nymph hook. 👍 I think size 8, but have some bigger and smaller

Very nice vid. Really appreciate the simple instruction AND application of it. Most skagit videos are just casting and no catching.

You might as well use bait casting rods because that is not fly fishing for lakers... trying using heavy sinking lines and stripping that would qualify
@JasonSwingen
@JasonSwingen 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! We are using heavy sinking lines. It's pretty difficult to strip in line and paddle, but you can catch fish however you like! Check out my other videos where I cast and strip in to catch lake trout 👍

I tie all my own flies. We were primarily using dahlberg divers, barrs meat whistles, and boogle bugs

A lot of different flies. Mostly small white streamers. Craft fur minnows, sex dungeons, and some new experimental flies 👍

Why do you call that an intruder?
@austinelliott2798
@austinelliott2798 4 ай бұрын
According to Jerry French, who helped create it, they call it the Intruder because it's a big gawdy fly that intrudes into the steelhead's personal space.

You know you timed the spawn just right when you get another smally following your hooked coming in. I have been doing Quetico trips with my brother for 40 years. Mainly south east. I turned my brother from a walleye lindy rigger into a crazed topwater smallmouth bass fisherman. You guys have the correct technique. Fly fishing. If you miss the fish. You just lift it up and put it right back in the same spot. I think I have counted 13 ways a bass can hit a topwater lure. Our favorite lure is the Rebel tinny pop R. I dont know if that could be cast with a fly rod. We have pretty much only done early June trips. How is the topwater smallmouth bass fishing the rest of the year.

I was up on quetico lake june 10 22. It must have been a tecord year for those white tree seeds. I caught my first two lake trout :) age 62. I took me an hour both days to complete the Grand Slam. That must have been a blast carching all those lakers. How deep were your flies getting while paddling? Lead line?

Polar chenile stacked on itself holds water and mats. I understand that the intruder its a platform. That being said a little respect for the platform is called for. Techniques are good but far from an intruder.

Yes, my buddy Ben is. It's amazing! When it works. We did have an issue on our sedond day out when the metal connecting rod must have rubbed another price of metal and broke, which tuends out boat sideways with 9 lines out.. But we got a replacement and it ran great!
