As someone who played XX back in the day but never touched Xrd, I'm surprised Faust isn't high up on the list. In XX, he was always seen as a character who was both easy to play mechanically and did a lot of "fun" stuff, which made him really popular (at least with the folks I played with). Or maybe I'm just biased because I was a Faust main. Who knows.

I also hate ranked, because it fosters truly anti social behavior and thoughts in people.

Online matchmaking in video games will always have people who are better than you, I wish more games would just give you a notification telling the players to keep their goals realistic, as to prevent tweets from ScrubQuotes to form.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of these people don't play Xrd at all. I used to talk to a lot of people about who they would "main", and their idea of who they would main came from memes and wiki reading, KZbinrs talking about characters, and not from actually playing the game (some didn't even own it.) Characters like Kum, Baiken, and Venom, are probably showing up more often than they should exactly because it's your channel. People who don't actually play the game much, if at all, but would want to main Venom or Kum, because you told them how cool he is.

maybe this is kindof indulgent,, but may i propose checking out touhou project's Ulil? or AoCF, same/similar bones theres no floor, characters are floating so theres a bit more verticality ig, and theres lots of projectile hijinx (normal touhou games are bullet hell so all the official fighting game spinoffs are still bullet heavy) i like em but ive always wondered how they shape up to other proper fighting games; i don't know enough about mechanics and all those cool intricacies to have interesting thoughts;;;;;;

How you feel about people just going to an event just to play and leave is exactly how I do about the Colorado FGC. We have dedicated setups for casual games here, but the moment it goes to top 16 there is nobody in the room to play with if you got struck out before top 16 (i alwats do). I want to play the game and improve with others, but that doesnt seem to be the majority opinion here.

Venom doesn't exist in Strive though, so it makes sense that if you play GG for Venom, you'd still be playing XRD, while mains of other characters like Leo or Mei can just go play Strive.

Your comment about the tekken "community" being people at a tournament rather than a community is depressingly accurate. My other love is Ultimate Frisbee and there's a good mix of tournaments where we play to win, and others where there's nothing on the line so we play some games for the fun of it, then just the whole tournament just hangs out and chats /drinks/plays silly games till the wee hours

i don't think ranked nor the ranked system is really the problem with modern games, it's that players are not at all incentivized to play any other mode. personally, i enjoy playing ranked from time to time, but if it becomes the main way i play the game i start to understand the frustrations you have. ideally, ranked should be the mode you play only a little bit a day when you really want to test your skill-that way, even if you have some bad matches and derank, you still have alternate modes to fall back on. developers could easily give you rewards for playing casual matches to encourage you to go in and warm up before ranked and stuff like that. while it is still up to the players to not have a bad relationship with ranking systems, it feels like developers have a pretty hands-off approach to it all right now that could be changed in the future. maybe they could have a more casual "ranked" mode, with hidden rank or the league-style MMR climb, and then a more competitive ranked where you can only get so many points in a day and works more like traditional elo

Something I like about smash ultimate online is that every character has their own rank, so you can play whoever without worrying about your mains rank. That is the only thing i like about smash ultimate online.

If you rage quit in Mortal Kombat they straight up just kill you. An animation of your body desintegrating of getting impaled plays and your opponent still gets their ranked points
@ehhorve85713 күн бұрын
now ther's an interesting conversation. mortal kombat is, rather famously, made by a team of smarter dudebro fratboy types who have a LONG history of playing with, against, and around people of every intelligence and temperament, because of the old american arcades. because of actually playing against ragers, the dudebro senses fire up and they's like "DoOoOd, that was great!" "yo, dude! we GOTTA add a quit faetality dude!" "oh. DUE'D. WICKED!" in stark contrast, a lot of... actually, MOST big name fight games are made by japanese people, or culturally diverse japanese people. as japan has a tendency to not like, and has active shunning of, angry rage mentality, japanese people would probably have less, maybe zero experience of the ragequit problem, not realizing that the problem exists, therefore not realizing the problem needs fixed. in short, someone needs to ragequit on a japanese tournament, or at least on a bunch of japanese people.
