Wow, I didn't even know about this one, I definitely want to see it. Your reaction to the ending was funny!

Not sure if you were referring to me when you talked about Virus. I was talking about this movie in another video of yours for some reason that I can't recall now. You can buy the full version, but it's hard to find - found out that one DVD advertised that it was the full version, but it was also the short one. You didn't mention the one scene which I know that I previously "warned" you about - although it looks like one of your stills was from this scene. I like the movie overall, but this scene hurt my appreciation. And that was when they were talking about the continuing of the human race through procreation. I understand this is a legitimate thing to talk about in a world ending/building scenario; however, they were making it out like they didn't have a choice. By the way, the long version is essential viewing if one is to watch this film. I also have Terror Beneath the Sea as a movie that I want to see eventually. I noticed it because of Peggy Neal, who was also in The X from Outer Space which I have seen. I'm usually curious as how these English speaking actors get involved with these movies made in Japan.

There is a fun fact performer appearance that has been overlooked : one of Irish character actor James Flavin's first appearances is as the second mate of The Venture in KING KONG 1933. He is absent from SON OF KONG, but he memorably appears as the lead cop with the order to shoot Joe. By then he had appeared in many films including bit appearance in LAURA. In some ways his film career is a male match to Bess Flowers although his parts always included dialog no matter how brief they were.

Those are all excellent picks. Of course, as I watched I started thinking of my own top 5 westerns. I'd go with four of your five and add The Searchers in place of True Grit.

Two under the radar war films that I have always loved from the 50's are "Attack" Directed by Robert Aldrich ("Whatever Happened To Baby Jane", "The Dirty Dozen", "Flight Of The Phoenix", "The Longest Yard" etc.) Film Stars Jack Palance, Eddie Albert, Lee Marvin, Buddy Ebsen who are all great. The other film is Bright Victory" with a great performance from "Arthur Kennedy". This film, like "Best Years of Our Lives" is also about coming home from war with disabilities. Both are rated well on IMDB... deservedly so. One last film that needs no promotion from me is "Paths of Glory", Kubrick's masterpiece and probably the finest war film of the 50's and maybe of all time. IMHO. You can see "Attack" on Tubi for free (with a few short commercials). "Bright Victory" plays on TCM periodically. It's so great that you have so much interest in historical films at your age.

“The 39 Steps” was such an exhilarating piece by Hitchcock. It is mind boggling to see Hannay traverse everywhere and meet every one he does yet it all makes sense, and he even comes full circle. I was also grateful to see a train in the film again. Although I have only seen a handful of Hitchcock films so far I would say this is now in my top 3 with “The Lady Vanishes” and “Shadow of a Doubt”.

Hello J. Wow, lots of movies in a short timespan. I like a good spooky/suspenseful film now and then. I do shy away from vampires and werewolves, and don't care for too much blood/guts/swearing. A tiny portion of a song stuck in your brain, and can't place it? Join the club! Two years ago that was me, trying to figure out a Rush tune from a small snippet of lyrics and some mysterious music from distant lands. (It was Tom Sawyer.) AI, yes. I used to enjoy using Bing at work but now it's AI Central. Nothing makes my heart sink like a robot helpfully typing a long AI answer to my simple question. I may check out M3gan based on your review, looks delightfully creepy. Thanks for these, enjoy the nice fall colors.

Ugh, yes, Bing was my go-to search engine as well until they started pushing their AI so hard. Unfortunately, everybody seems to have hopped on that bandwagon. I went back to Google as my default, and while there are many things I dislike and distrust about them, they haven't been pushing the AI answers quite as aggressively... so far.

The Prisoner is ambiguous. Everybody will have a different take on it. Love this series since i saw it when i was 14. It had a great impact on me. I see it as purgatory. The title sequence is the big tip off. The hearse with the undertaker. He is poisoned. Number 2 is his judge. No matter what his does he ends up back a the Village. It is still my favorite TV series. A big mind F.

I am glad to have added “Sabotage” on my Hitchcock ride. I was very invested in Mrs Verloc, Stevie and Detective Spencer and was never particularly sympathetic towards Mr Verloc. I really enjoyed Hitchcock’s filming techniques through Stevie’s walk as well as Mr and Mrs Verloc’s unspoken interaction in the final act. I see that there is a free licensed copy of “The 39 Steps” available on KZbin which I hope to watch soon.

If anyone is looking for a kid friendly Halloween movie I recommend an old Ray Bradbury movie called The Halloween Tree. It's animated and from the 90's. I always watch it every year to kick off my Halloween viewings. It's based on a Ray Bradbury book and he is also the narrator in the movie. Leonard Nimoy also voices one of the main characters.

Jerome, I remember seeing " Scream Of The Wolf " in January of 1974. ABC ran it as a " Movie Of The Week " with the original " The Night Stalker " as a lead in to build an audience. Won't do any spoilers, but for us young ones who were expecting the action/Horror of " The Night Stalker " ?...we were disappointed. Others may really enjoy it. Just not Dan Curtis at his best.

There was way too much of that crying baby.. I was hoping Andromeda would take it out soon. BTW, it wasn't explained how the strain, that disintegrate the gaskets connecting the core to all the labs, didn't cause everyone at wildfire to die... i.e. when/how did it go to a totally benign strain? And what's the deal with the lady.. why didn't she not react appropriately when one of the cultures showed no growth?!

I am not a fan of profanity or the occult, those are automatic clicks for me. But I love silent movies and followed the link to House of Usher. I had never heard of Jean Epstein, but his avant guard style might have influence Jean Cocteau, that's what this film reminded me of, anyway. And the repeated shots in the house of the long hallway with the curtains blowing with the wind was borrowed for sure by future horror filmakers Paul Leni (Cat and the Canary) and James Whale (The Old Dark House). Thanks for recommending House of Usher! There's a fun episode of Rod Sterling's Night Gallery about someone who may not be quite dead called The Dead Man that's sooooo good! You should check it out if you haven't seen it.
@Weiselberry3 күн бұрын
Yes, I was strongly reminded of Leni's direction in The Cat and the Canary during the hallway shots as well. I'm so glad you enjoyed the film!

My Hitchcock ride continued with his 1934 version of “The Man Who Knew Too Much”. I do not think I will tire of Hitchcock’s beginning of movies of a completely normal setting turning into something unexpected. I was not at all surprised to see Peter Lorre’s character having recently watched “M” although I was slightly disappointed there was no train in this Hitchcock piece. Having enjoyed this film I am leaning towards watching his remake at some point.
@Weiselberry3 күн бұрын
Ha, no, there's no train here. I'm glad you liked this one, and I'll be curious to hear what you think of the remake, which I've seen a few times though I haven't reviewed it yet.

Happy October! I had a question regarding your comment about occult themed films. I TOTALLY respect your decision to avoid these, but I wondered if you could give an example of one you'd pass on. I only ask so I would have an idea of what things to avoid suggesting in the future; I''m thinking I don't watch a lot of these either, but just to be sure. Enjoyed your reviews, as usual! P.S. A.I. scares me, too; a lot.
@Weiselberry3 күн бұрын
Sure, I can give you a specific list of things I prefer to avoid, but rest assured that I'm not offended when someone recommends a film with any of these elements. I get all kinds of suggestions, and I figure it's up to me to do my own homework by checking the parents guide on IMDb, which helps me decide if I want to move forward with a film or not. Content I prefer to avoid includes demonic possession, devil worship, satanic imagery, witchcraft, seances, mediums, and ouija boards. So, yes, cinematic giants like The Exorcist and Rosemary's Baby are out, as well as many of the more popular horror movies of the last couple years, such as Hereditary, The Witch, Midsommar, Late Night with the Devil, and Longlegs. I'm also iffy on supernatural/paranormal stuff with ghosts and haunted houses and evil things. Some I'm okay with. Others I skip. I should note that there are certainly films I've watched and enjoyed that had one or two of these elements. For example, I really like The Black Cat (1934), in which Boris Karloff leads a satanic cult, and I still love the 2006 adaptation of Jane Eyre even though they added a scene with a ouija board. I don't like it, but I don't avoid the miniseries just because of it. I hope that was helpful!
@Ravenscroft823 күн бұрын
@@Weiselberry it was, thank you! And I agree about The Black Cat; it's one of my favorite classics, in no small part because I love seeing Bela as the "good guy" (kind of) for once. I do consider myself a genre fan, but I greatly prefer the older stuff. Horror from the 1980s forward or so has been...iffy to say the least, and I'm pretty jaded on modern horror. I can't ever seem to connect with the characters and the emphasis is too much on gore. I appreciate your detailed response and am definitely looking forward to more of your seasonal offerings this year!

Jerome weiselberry - I have the mecha Godzilla vs mecha Godzilla 1993. I got it after I saw the movie in the theater. It’s a 2 disc set. It’s quite good. The music is composed by akira fukube. The Godzilla theme is iconic . The Gforce theme used in the movie was militaristic. Rodan and mecha Godzilla has their own theme as well. There is a darker theme of the mecha gozilla theme . It’s called mecha gozilla repair. Used in the scene repairing mecha Godzilla after it was damaged during its battle with gozilla. I liked the gforce theme’s militaristic tempo. I recommend the soundtrack.
