I got to ride in this beautiful plane yesterday for the Flying Legends day here in Lebanon Tennessee. It was awesome to ride in such a well maintained piece of aviation history. The crew are all super friendly and the plane is an absolute blast to ride in.

As a kid, visiting my grandparents meant a TWA 707 or 727 from O'Hare to Kansas City Municipal, connecting to a Central Air Lines DC-3 from MKC to Parsons, KS.

Cause this is a very well maintained piece of aviation history which you obviously don’t have any interest in. How about you take a ride in it and maybe you’ll change your mind

The rumble and the rattle of them says lets go flying. Love it. Nothing like that sound no jet can compare to that sound.

They sound great. They are in fact Wright Cyclone R-1820 ( Not P&W R1830's like the majority of DC3's have ) 9 cylinder single row radials, and you can tell at a glance, with the stumpy, short looking engine cowls. Not sure of the - version of these engines, but normally about 1,050HP - 1,150HP rated T/O power. The R1830 P&W was marginally more powerful, then you had the Super DC3 with bigger engines again ( R2000's ). QANTAS in Australia used the R1820's in their DC3's, and supposedly in service, they were a bit more vibey than the Pratt and Whitney's, maybe due to 9 cylinders doing virtually the same work as the14 cylinders of the P&W's.

I was plane captain on a DC3 in the navy in 1962. The plane was built in 1938 and i was born in 1944. It was older than me. It never let us down i still love to see them fly.

The only thing missing is the little monster on the wing taking pieces off then looking in the window at William Shatner! Love the DC-3 and would fly on one anytime. Keep her flying boys!

I'd like to see the unedited version, without KZbin's software stabilization. Looks to me like the stabilization took a lot of the scenery away in favor of keeping the wing centered.

Jesus they used a lot of rivets in that thing. The wings are all rivets with some aluminum strips in between to take up the space.

My first flight ever was in a Southern Airways DC-3 out of Fannin Field, Panama City, FL. back in 1964. I've always had a special place in my heart for those old planes. My first jet flight was on a Boeing 707. I never fly anymore. Too much of a hassle these days.
@davecrupel28174 жыл бұрын
I've heard that flying back in your heyday was so much simpler. You bought a ticket and off you went. No TSA nonsense, no excessive security checking, no hop scotch, blood samples or interrogations. Is (or rather was) that true?
