What a great treat to see! Thank you Lee for sharing this wonderful piece of machinery, the Big Boy 4014! I can’t wait to see it on the way back through the 20th and 21st of July @ Union Station in Ogden. I know when I heard that distinctive whistle in my apartment that it was the Big Boy. I’m so glad and happy that they were able to get it back in working condition. 🫶👍🎉

Western Pacific and Great Northern/Burlington Northern had a run-through power agreement for trains between Klamath Falls, OR and Stockton, CA for Inside Gateway trains connecting to the Santa Fe at Stockton. For a while in the early 70's, Stockton was host to a rainbow of BN power despite how far it was from the rest of the BN. This agreement ended overnight in 1980 with the announcement of the UP merger, and WP was forced to use their four-axle power over the steep grade.

WP #3002 is now at its good home at the Utah State Railroad Museum of Ogden Utah. Thanks to everyone involved in saving and restoring the GP35, the Western Pacific Railroad is now represented in Utah which completes the major Utah railroads collection. who knows? Maybe WP #3002 could be used in excursion service.

Well dubbed. Videos like this are hard to come by. Too bad Stephen didn't take a sound recorder with him as he took these videos. Those old EMDs sound great. Stephen Harris must have loved the Yakima River Canyon between Ellensburg and Yakima. Can't say as I blame him. Trains, goats, deer, and other wildlife, and a great place to raft the river. Done that a few times.
