This is why I don’t think the BV for clan mechs are actually balanced vs IS mechs. Clan forces are always at a disadvantage and rarely win vs IS forces of the same BV. If the system was really balanced, the odds would be a hell of a lot closer to 50/50.

I leaned towards Comstar, for a few reasons. First, I like white armor, and while it's... objectively bad, and I know most people thought that Snow Raven/Raven Alliance would have looked pretty, I know I can, and want to paint white. Secondly, I am a big fan of Asimov, and the Foundation, and while the section with the Galactic Spirit religion in Foundation is only a small portion, it was still inspiring. I decided to lean towards Blakist, more religious parts of Comstar as well, because of the way the religion, and Blakism is potrayed and works is similar to other groups I love, such as the Brotherhood of Steel from Fallout, where the fait is more respect to keep repeats of the horrors those who didn't fully understand what they used on others from happening. Also space wizards and running the bank and telephones, pretty damn useful. And finally... I just wanted a faction that could be in the "main" universe for earlier periods then a clan force, and post Clan Invasion, Comstar would definitely enjoy having some salvaged Clan Mechs, so I can play pretty much any era. Technically, I focused specifically on a custom, semi fantastical and fanatical sect I named "The Red Hand of Blake", or "The Red Hand" if speaking to outsiders. They fully fall into the mumbo jumbo, and are united by the belief that enforced Blakism would cease many of the abuses and full ravages of war far better then any other system like "Clan Honor" and such. IN practice, they're zealots that masquerade as a merc company that receive grant money and toys from Comstar members attempting to ensure Blake's vision is fulfilled. Theoretically they do live post dissolution of Comstar, separate from the Blessed Order of one of probably a dozen mercenary companies acting as training and recruitment organizations to keep the fire of Blake's dream alive, but that's just to handwave them being able to fit in any point in Battletech history. Minus Star League but... eh, it's a paintjob, doing my best here.

As for the name, I decided to break up the white with some gold, then eventually went with red on their weapons and hands, inspired by the Night Lord's use of red gauntlets to mark those condemned.
@klasclaywood266712 күн бұрын
People keep saying "homebrew mercenary faction", but from what I've read so far I feel like every faction has a ton of militias, local volunteer regiments and all kinds of paint schemes you could use without being mercenaries
@Thearmedpainter11 күн бұрын
That’s true, but everyone has the choice to do what they want. Home brew merc units are common and fun, similar to how many people will make their own Space Marine chapters, nothing wrong with that and at the end of the day it gives them a stronger connection to their minis.

Since joining the MRC, I've gotten really into digging into lists. I've mostly been playing DCMS stuff because I love PPCs and I've been learning how C3 works. And Kurita has one of my favorite Battle Armors. I've noticed that most of the vehicles that Kurita produces are Dark Age designs, so I've been trying to put together a company sized Dark Age-era unit primarily comprised of vehicles and infantry, with a command lance of 'mechs.

Interesting indeed. I can see two things wrong with it though, in this iteration (which, I suppose is a prototype?) - first of all you don't print handles like this. It would easily break. In fact, handles are usually an example on how not to align layers, for that reason. Easy fix though. The second problem might be bigger. How do you keep paint from getting into the gears and thus blocking them at some point sooner or later? Sure, having your finger on the one in the middle might work, but what about the others? And spray paint gets everywhere, while working. There's no way to "just take good aim" or something. I wouldn't want to have to mask them every time.
@ThearmedpainterАй бұрын
@@Vortagh I’m not worried about the structural integrity, I’d be more worried about the gears but we’ll see how that actually pans out. Given a lot of the air brushing I do from the top angles I don’t think it’ll actually get access to the internal mechanisms easily. I’m going into this optimistic though as it is a new take on a paint handle and k appreciate the approach to innovation. We’ll see!
@VortaghАй бұрын
@@Thearmedpainter I'm very worried about structural integrity, because it is also a very very thin stem at one point and I have had my share of breakages with my prints over the years. I think adding a steel rod would be a good idea. About the gears, if it's mostly from the top, maybe some sort of "thumb dome" that slightly over extends over the gears, might be enough.

I’m new to BT and I love classic but not played alpha yet. I started with the beginner box with the Vindicator then got GOAC and CI after. Now I have the proliferation cycle and the urbies! Binged Tex Talks and so on. I think the other boxes have great value compared to most games especially if it’s classic you want to learn which was the case for me. I plan on getting Alpha not for the game but the mechs with an option to play alpha if I feel like it. This box is amazing and perfect for getting players into a game and other companies should learn from BT and I thought the other boxes were good to begin with. Catalysts whole approach for getting beginners into the series is something other games should try to emulate.
