The controller was a dick. The flight was landing just prior to a hurricane arriving, in driving rain and boarder line wind shear. The gate would have been a right turn off to clear, but they had every light turned up to full bright on a left turn off, which the pilot flying naturally took, being a pitch black night with every light in the known universe turned up bright on an incorrect turn off. So at this time, the controller decided to have a hissy fit of why the left turn was made (not on this audio) and then need American at every single solitary call instead of an abbreviated call sign after using a full call sign. Being that they were on an unfamiliar side of the airport, trying to find taxiways in a near hurricane, the only plane on the airport moving, and NOW this controller decides to be verbatim precise? You know, sometimes you have to understand the conditions going on and be just a tiny bit flexible.

@UnbeatenPath12 жыл бұрын
Wrong. ATL procedures are to use full callsigns on any runway hold short or crossing clearances. The controller is only following policy. OK, for people below who are obviously ignorant in terms of aviation - ENGLISH is an official language of commercial aviation. EVERY pilot on international routes is REQUIRED to have a working command of ENGLISH language. If such pilot cannot converse in ENGLISH they are not qualified to fly international routes. ATC had an ABSOLUTE right to be pissed off at the pilots who could not understand the simplest of commands. It's the pilots who were completely unprofessional, not the ATC. End of story.

@liamp19942 жыл бұрын
Also, NYC controllers designed their systems such that they have a Ramp and a Ground controller but they are not co-working or collaborating and requiring pilots to change freq during taxi which is clearly just a poor design, more handoff more confusion, more traffic jams when it goes wrong. Rude new york ATC aren't better than a non native English speaker simply because they are loud and rude.
@bessarion17712 жыл бұрын
@@liamp1994 You are missing the point. Pilots who cannot communicate in English, like this one clearly could not, should not be allowed to fly international routes. They endanger themselves and thousands of people, and it doesn't matter if traffic controllers in arguably one of the busiest airports in the World are polite or not. I’d disagree, as an Indian who speaks about 6 different languages myself I understand the emotions of the ATC. Kennedy is a very very fast paced airport with so many airplanes round the clock. And to them, time equals money. Delays cost the airport tens of thousands of dollars. He asked a normal question in a slow manner, sure his voice sounded loud and irritated but he did break the question down.
